"Crowley will be dealt with too, in time," Cas said, frowning a bit. They had a lot to do.
"Oh I don't doubt that," Runa said. "I plan to be far away when that happens. I'm not going to be caught in that fallout."
Cas nodded his satisfaction of that. He wanted to keep as many people out of the fallout range as possible.
Runa lapsed back into silence after that. For the moment, she had run out of common ground with him.
Castiel didn't mind, just sitting and relaxing with her for the moment. He didn't mind the quiet, after all, or the company.
Runa ended up dozing off as she enjoyed the quiet company. It was late, and the day of driving finally caught up to her.
Cas waited until she was mostly asleep anyway to move her into the bedroom on the empty bed. And then he vanished again to go check on things in Heaven.
Runa stirred a bit when she was moved, but settled in again quickly. She woke up the next morning feeling more rested than usual, and was on Kyra's tablet researching lore when the others woke up.
Kyra looked over at her, snorted, and went to go get dressed and ready for the day.
Runa looked over when she heard Kyra waking up.
"What?" she asked. "I'm just looking through the lore on chupas. Seeing if there was anything we missed." |
"I know," Kyra said mildly. "But you have this... look." She shrugged.
"What look?" Runa asked, raising an eyebrow. "Like a homocidal look, a possessed look, what?"
"It's kind of like your "I just won a battle that no one even knows about" look," Kyra said, tilting her head a bit. "Or "I just bedded Dean Winchester, nyah". One of the two."
"Well, I can guarantee it's not the second one," Runa replied with a snort. "Not since he became exclusive to his angel."
Kyra nodded. "Well then, it's something similar."
"Not really," Runa said. "I just slept well. Skywatched for a while last night."
"Ah. Okay." Kyra nodded and grabbed clothes. "I'm going to go get changed."
Runa nodded and went back to her research.
It took a few days to find the area Bobby had told them about, and when they got there, they found a fresh chupa corpse.
Kyra poked it with a toe, frowning a bit as she looked at the large chunk taken out of it. "What the hell." |
Runa was busy looking around the area.
"Nothing demonic," she said, shaking her head. "Not even a whiff of sulfur." Sam just looked at the corpse. "I've never seen anything like it," he said. He glanced at Gabriel, who also shook his head. "I got nothing," the archangel replied. |
Castiel shook his head, perplexed, while Dean snorted.
"Well, this sucks," he grumbled. "We've got nothing from any angle. There's nothing about this in the lore, there's no real evidence around here, and it's nowhere to be found. Not even the damn Archangel knows what it is." |
"Which means we have to do some legwork," Runa said. She looked around. "Whatever it is, it's attacking chupas, right? Chupas attack sheep and goats. Maybe we should see if there are any people around here with flocks, maybe they've noticed something. Or, if nothing else, we stake out a flock and see what happens to the chupa that shows up. We know one will, they're not all that bright."
"That's... not a bad plan, actually," Sam admitted. |
"You don't have to sound so surprised," Kyra said, her voice dry as she pulled out her tablet, starting to look up the required information. "There's several people with flocks around here, so we can just pick one."
Dean snickered at Sam. |
"We should go around and ask if any of those farmers have noticed anything strange with their flocks," Runa mused. "If there are several around, we should narrow it down some, unless we all want to pick a different flock and stake it out."
Sam just gave Dean a flat look. |
Kyra nodded. "Well, we can start here, maybe," she said, picking a flock at random. "Ask this guy about his flock, and then make our way around."
