"Yeah. One good thing." Kyra shook her head a bit. "We'll probably find another one in a couple more days, but for now I'm glad this one is done."
"Hey, as long as we're hunting down something normal, I'm good with it," Runa said. "Give me a wendigo or a haunting any day, not this... monster sheep beast shit."
"Seriously." Kyra shivered a bit and shook her head, briefly looking at the other people in the bar.
Runa glanced around as well, and grinned a bit when she noticed one of the guys at the counter looking her over.
"Well, tonight might be looking up," she commented to Kyra. |
Kyra laughed quietly. "Go on and play," she said, nudging her gently. "I'll stay here for a while longer."
Runa just grinned, rolled her eyes at her friend, and got up to go start flirting. She had no doubts as to how the night was going to end, now.
Dean came in a little bit later and paused briefly when he saw Runa flirting. But he didn't say anything, instead heading over to sit with Kyra for a bit and quashing the brief thought that he did not like seeing Runa flirting with other men.
Runa noticed when Dean walked in, and glanced over, but she didn't do any more than that. Instead, she turned her attention back to the guy she was flirting with, easily keeping track of his reactions. He wasn't even a challenge.
Dean started on a beer, glancing over at Runa from time to time. He really didn't appreciate her flirting with someone else, but he also wasn't about to go over there and interrupt her. He didn't have any right to, after all, and it would be a really dick move.
After another half an hour or so of flirting, Runa gestured to Kyra that she was leaving. She'd meet her friend back at the room later.
Kyra nodded and waved a bit to her, leaning back and relaxing at the table with Dean, who still looked a bit pissed.
It was well into the wee hours of the morning when Runa got back to the hotel. She didn't feel like staying the whole night with the guy from the bar; she'd gotten what she wanted, so there was no more reason to stay. She walked quietly back to the door of the room and took out the key.
Kyra was still awake and reading, though she had clearly taken a shower. She did look over when Runa opened the door.
"Have fun?" she asked mildly. |
"For the most part," Runa replied as she closed the door behind her and took off her jacket. "Guy had no idea how to properly handle a woman, but he wasn't too bad."
"Ah." Kyra shook her head. "Well, it seems to be hit or miss with pick-ups in a bar." She shrugged and shifted her Nook up higher. "Although perhaps in the next town you will find someone more satisfactory."
"Maybe, we'll see," Runa said as she grabbed her night shirt and a towel. "I'm going to shower real quick."
"Go for it." Kyra settled back in with her book for a little while longer. She wasn't quite ready to go to bed yet.
Runa nodded and went to shower. Somehow, she didn't feel relaxed like she usually did after a good romp, so she showered quickly and went back out to settle on the second bed.
Kyra didn't comment, instead just waiting until Runa was settled to turn off the lights, though she did keep her Nook on. Looked like it was going to be a sleepless night for both of them.
The next morning, Runa was up early gathering her things. She was ready to be back on the road, and the prospect of heading up towards Alaska was an appealing one. Maybe she could split off from the group once they were there and go on a quick monster hunt of her own. She was still feeling a little more Hellspawnish than usual, and she didn't want to take that out on any of the others.
Kyra was also ready to go early, and she found some food to snack on while waiting for the boys to get up.
So when they were finally all ready to go, she headed over to the car she'd adopted and settled in to drive for a while. |
The drive was long and uneventful, at least for that day. Around dusk, Sam sent the girls a text to let them know that they were stopping for the night.
A friend of ours is in the area, if you want to come with us, he added. She'd probably like you both. |
Kyra blinked and looked at Runa, raising her eyebrows and showing her the text.
"Shall we? Or do you feel like skipping out?" |
Runa shrugged.
"May as well go," she said. "We can always skip out later, if we want." |
Kyra nodded.
Where should we meet you? she texted back. |
