Heading to a motel to crash in, and then probably out to the local diner. Might as well follow us. Sam calmly kept his phone away from Gabriel, who was clearly getting bored enough to start prodding at the rest of them.
|
Kyra didn't reply, instead just following Dean's car back to a motel. Getting rooms for the night wasn't a bad idea at all.
Although she was curious who this friend was. |
A little while later, the group had gathered at a little local place.
"You're sure Charlie's going to be able to find us here?" Sam asked his brother. "It's really out of the way." |
"This is Charlie we're talking about," Dean said with a scoff. "I'm pretty sure she could find us in the middle of Antarctica."
|
"Point," Sam admitted.
"Charlie?" Runa asked, a bit curious. |
"Yeah, friend of ours we met hunting a little while back," Dean said. "She's been pretty helpful." He looked over when the door to the diner opened. "And speak of the devil! There she is."
|
"Charlie, hey, there you are," Sam greeted when the redhead walked in. He grinned and gave her a hug. Gabriel just kind of smirked a bit, that smirk he wore when he was in on a good joke nobody else was.
"Hey, guys, long time no see," Charlie said, grinning. Runa just did a spectacular double-take and went pale. |
Kyra looked, went pale, made a squeaking noise not unlike a mouse being stepped on, and debated the wisdom of a mad dash or poofing out of there.
Cas looked at the girls, frowned, and looked at Charlie. That was a very strange reaction and he couldn't see the reason why. |
Runa had already come to a conclusion in her own mental debate, and promptly stood up.
"I'm going outside," she said. She didn't wait for an answer, just walking as fast as she could without being outright sprinting. Sam blinked. "What just happened?" he asked, looking at the remaining group. |
Cas was also frowning and looked at Charlie. Charlie just shrugged, though she was hiding a bit of a grin. Well, well. Looks like she'd been found out.
Kyra sank into her seat, watching Charlie for several moments before she got up and followed Runa outside. Nope, nothing was worth staying in the same room as God. |
Sam just glanced at his brother, confused, and then looked at Gabriel. Gabriel just grinned and looked at Charlie.
"Hey... Mom," he said, pausing on the word 'mom'. "Finally decided to take a personal interest?" Sam blinked as the implications set in and shot his brother a horrified look. |
"I see you're just as insolent as ever," Charlie shot back. "Besides, you should know how fun being a human can be."
Dean looked just as horrified, looking at Charlie as if he'd never seen her--him--Him--whatever before. |
"Hey, I didn't try to take over the world, give me a little credit," Gabriel protested. "And weren't you in a male vessel not too long ago? Why this new one?"
Sam edged a bit closer to his brother. "Why us?" he muttered to Dean. "This isn't fair at all." |
"The male vessel had served its purpose," Charlie said with a shrug. "This one is more... entertaining."
"No fricken' clue," Dean muttered. |
Gabriel couldn't help but snort.
"I've heard," he said. He grinned. "I'm still waiting for Cas to really settle in his vessel. He hasn't started throwing feathers yet." Sam just listened to the exchange helplessly, trying to reconcile the fact that Charlie was, in fact, God. |
Charlie smiled fondly and shook her head. "How many times have I told you not to tease your younger siblings?" It was clearly a very old and well used statement.
Dean was also trying to reconcile the two, and not getting very far. He was not appreciating this. At all. He hated bombshells like that. |
Gabriel just smirked.
"Aww, look, we broke Cas," he teased, nudging his brother. |
Cas glowered at Gabe reflexively, although a few feathers did fall around them.
"Your commentary is not needed, Gabriel," he said. He wasn't quite ready to talk to God yet. |
"It's all in good fun, little brother," Gabriel said. He caught one of the feathers. "Huh, still the same."
"Gabriel," Charlie sighed. |
That, of course, just prompted another small spout of feathers from Castiel. Dean just blinked a few times, dumbfounded.
|
Gabriel just smirked a bit.
"See?" he said. "Settling." Charlie just rolled her eyes and looked at Cas. "Settling is normal," she said. "It happens, when someone is in a vessel as long as you've been. Gabriel settled a long time ago." |
Cas's eyes narrowed a little but he didn't start bombarding Charlie with questions, mainly things like "Why did you never answer me?" He figured that was a conversation better saved for a time when the Winchesters were not around.
|
Charlie knew exactly what was going through his head, but didn't say anything. Cas had to work up to it himself. With that, she turned to the Winchesters. "So the cat's kind of out of the bag now, huh?"
|
"Kind of?" Dean said, his eyebrows shooting up. "Were you ever planning on telling us? Or were you just going to let us keep making fools of ourselves?"
|
"Not like you needed any help with that one," Gabriel commented.
"Hey, my job isn't to interfere anymore," Charlie pointed out, though she did shoot Gabriel a Look. "And who said you were making fools of yourselves? Besides this one here." |
