"And stability is good, even though I can't believe I'm saying that." Dean made a face. "Definitely better than the alternative."
"Yeah," Runa said. She snuggled them both. "Now everyone's energy can be focused on dealing with Heaven."
"Right." Dean grumbled a bit, although he was already settling in for a nap. Something that Cas was very subtly encouraging.
Runa could tell what Cas was doing. She felt a bit more sensitive to angelic power since coming back out of Hell again, and she could definitely sense Cas encouraging restful sleep.
Cas just smiled a bit and continued to gently nudge them both towards sleep. Gently, though. Dean was getting there on his own and Runa looked like she'd fall asleep shortly.
Indeed, Runa drifted off, the last of the tension bleeding out of her as she finally got some real sleep.
Cas settled in there for the night, reaching out and prodding Gabriel to see if he was still awake, since the archangel did like to sleep. But they needed to plan.
Gabriel felt his little brother's metaphysical prodding and carefully gave him a nudge back, letting him know they could wait till morning. Everyone was exhausted, and he was going to stay there and look after Kyra and Sam for the night. Sam stirred a bit at the Grace moving around, so Gabriel just settled in closer and let go of the soft communication.
Cas huffed but settled down for the night as well. He could do some planning of his own through the night, anyway.
The next morning came a bit earlier than anyone would have liked when Dean's cell phone started going off. It was his actual personal phone, rather than his 'work' phone, and the display lit up with Bobby's name.
Dean groaned and reached over without lifting his head, knocking a few things around on the bedside table before he grabbed his phone.
"What the hell?" he growled without even bothering to check who had called. There were only two people that called that number anymore, and one was (presumably) still asleep in the other room. |
"I could ask you the same question," Bobby retorted from the other end of the line. "When'd you start lettin' people follow you home, boy? I taught you better than that."
Dean groaned. "Since the world's going to hell in a handbasket," he grumped. "Besides, Cas doesn't sleep so he would have said if anything was up around here. So why are you calling me?"
"Because I got woken up at the crack of o-dark-thirty by some kid pounding on my door lookin' for you boys," Bobby groused. "Says his name's Jesse, that ringin' any bells in your head?"
"Jesse?" Dean blinked, and it took him a moment. "Oh, Jesse. Been a few years since we saw him. How's he doing?"
"He's staring into a cup of coffee like it's got the answer to life and jumping at every little sound," Bobby said frankly. "He specifically asked for you boys. He looks spooked, Dean. Wouldn't even give his name till he was sure the doors and windows were salted."
"Dammit." Dean ran a hand through his hair and finally got up, grabbing clothes. "Alright, we're heading out. Or we will be once I drag Sammy out of bed. We'll be there as soon as we can."
"Alright," Bobby said. "I'll keep an eye on the kid. Though you sure it's a good idea to bring Sam? He might not be exactly... ya know, stable right now."
"He's still Sam," Dean pointed out. "He'll be fine. Besides, if I try to keep him out of this, he'll just follow me anyway. He knows how to hotwire a car."
"And ain't that just the scariest thing," Bobby muttered. "Fine. But get yer own breakfast, I ain't cookin' for eight."
"Fine, fine. We'll see you in a few hours." Dean hung up and went to go get Runa up.
Runa was sleeping soundly, settled in next to Cas. She had finally relaxed enough that she was dead asleep, and Dean's phone hadn't woken her.
Dean sighed as he leaned over her. "Runa, time to get up. I know it's early. Come on. We can sleep in tomorrow."
Runa groaned a bit, trying to burrow a bit deeper into the bed. After a moment or two, though, she did sit up.
"What's going on?" she asked, rubbing her eyes. "The world can't be ending again yet, it's too early." |
"Bobby called. A kid we helped a few years back showed up on his doorstep," Dean said. "I promised Bobby we'd go help."
