Indeed, after dinner, the three girls disappeared into Liz's room, and Liz made sure to lock the door so the guys couldn't try to spy on them. She'd heard about Tamaki and his eccentricities.
|
Kaoru and Hikaru did try the door at one point and left pouting.
"Oooh, how about this?" Lucy held up a blue and silver tunic she'd brought along. It was even one that she'd gotten from Liz. |
Liz looked at the piece critically.
"It's really up to whether Haruhi likes it," she said. "But my opinion is that warmer colors are probably best." She dug around for a moment before emerging with a sweater tunic that was a delicate orangey-pink shot through with gold. "Maybe this?" |
"The colors look good," Lucy agreed.
"I could try it on," Haruhi said. "If you want to." Lucy grinned. "Anything you like you're welcome to try." |
"You may as well," Liz encouraged. "The worst that can happen is you don't like it and you try something else."
|
Haruhi nodded and took the tunic, going to change. She emerged in the tunic set a few moments later.
"Oooh, I like that," Lucy said with a grin. |
"I like it a lot," Liz agreed, grinning. "What do you think, Haruhi?"
|
Haruhi shrugged. "It's fine. It's nice colors."
Lucy grinned. Now that they had a starting point, things would get easier. |
"Is there anything you would change about it to make it more to your tastes?" Liz asked as she examined how the tunic looked on Haruhi.
|
"Maybe make it a bit bigger," Haruhi said. "It's a bit tight for my tastes." She did turn slowly on the spot so they could see.
|
Liz nodded and made a note in her sketchbook.
"My shoulders are probably a little narrower than yours," she said. "And silk isn't a forgiving fabric. But the length, the hem, the waist, those are okay?" |
"Length is fine as far as I'm concerned," Haruhi said. "The waist is fine."
"Looks like it could be a bit shorter, but then, it also depends what style you want to go with," Lucy said. "The sweater-type is good at that length, a lighter one could be a bit shorter." |
"And belts," Liz added. "Narrow ones for lighter tunics, wide ones for heavier sweaters or dresses, depending on the cut of the waist."
|
"Earrings would be good with that too, maybe something smaller in similar colors," Lucy mused.
|
"Studs, I think," Liz agreed. "Big earrings wouldn't suit her. But I have plenty of studs at home we can look at when we get back."
|
"Yeah, no, nothing big and long and showy. Just studs, maybe a drop style," Lucy said. "Oh, those coral colored pearl drops, those would go well."
Haruhi just blinked and let them discuss that, instead starting to go through the other proffered clothes. |
"Those would be very nice," Liz agreed, nodding. "Pretty, but subtle. I like that idea a lot."
|
Lucy nodded with a grin. "Oh we could have so much fun," she said, grinning.
Haruhi didn't even look very freaked out. These two were calmer about it than the club, for which she was grateful. |
Liz grinned, too, and pulled out her preferred sketching pencils. Time to design something specifically for Haruhi. Quickly, she sketched out Haruhi's basic body shape, and then started to draw the first structure lines of the outfit.
|
Lucy ended up settling in with Haruhi while Liz sketched, talking about food and sweets and trips and towns and tea. Lucy made a mental note to borrow Haruhi more often.
|
After a little while, Liz set her pencils down and handed over her sketchpad.
"Here," she said. "What do you think of this?" The design was a loose-fitting, sheer tunic, with a plain black tank underneath and skinny jeans. Instead of the heels or boots she would have suggested for any other girl, Liz had added a pair of solid-colored flats that went with the tunic, and sketched out a pair of small, amber-colored earrings. "I know it's a lot of color, but colors can all be changed. It's just a concept design right now." |
Haruhi took it and blinked, looking it over. "Huh. Looks like it should be comfy. And not that far outside what I normally wear on weekends."
|
"I made sure not to go overboard with accessories or anything," Liz said. "No lace on the tank at all, it doesn't need it, and just plain jeans and shoes. The tunic is the main piece there. It would end up being sheer silk or some sort of chiffon, so it's light and airy."
|
Haruhi nodded. "Yeah, I can see that. It looks fine to me. Maybe not bright colors, though, and nothing over the top and showy, just something simple."
|
"I have a thing for jewel tones," Liz admitted as she made a note on the page. "But I'm sure I could order something a bit more subtle. Anything in particular?"
