Clint flicked his eyes to Tony for a moment, and then back. He knew Nat had already mentally cataloged Stark's comment about the vodka.
Natasha nodded a bit again. So Alexis was a decent human being. That got her leaning in the right direction, at least. She settled back a bit in her seat, apparently content for the time being again.
Satisfied that Nat was satisfied, Clint settled back in as well, though he kept an eye on Alexis.
When everyone else finally settled in to actually watch a movie, Alexis debated getting up and leaving. She knew how these things went, after all; they all watched movies until they fell asleep. So she glanced at Clint to see if she could sneak away without his noticing.
No such luck. He looked at her, raising an eyebrow, and glanced at her seat. Nope, she was going to stay, as long as he had any say in it.
Alexis puffed out her cheeks in a silent huff but settled in. When Bruce dropped a blanket on the back of the chair, she didn't comment, just pulled it over herself after a few moments to curl up in the chair.
Clint nodded a bit at that and settled in as well. Time for the movie.
Alexis ended up staying the night despite her misgivings, mainly because she fell asleep on the chair half-way through the second movie. Since Thor had fallen asleep on the couch a little earlier, she felt justified in doing so.
Clint was one of the last to fall asleep, but he did so; ending up wedged between Natasha and the arm of the couch. There were definitely worse places to be.
By the time Alexis woke up again, Bruce and Steve were up, there was coffee, and she got a look at Natasha and Clint. Shaking her head at herself, she got up and went to go get some coffee. She was already feeling more stable than she had been yesterday.
Clint and Natasha were just dozing, really, and Clint got up when he smelled the coffee. Getting up, he shuffled into the kitchen, absently patting the glowing toaster as he walked by.
Alexis snorted at that, shaking her head before she settled down with her coffee, taking her time as she checked her phones and her messages to make sure she hadn't missed anything vital.
Which she hadn't; Autumn had left her a message saying everything was under control for the moment.
"World shouldn't be ending again yet," Clint said over his coffee when he saw her checking her messages. "Too early for the world to be ending again yet." |
"Just had to make sure my desk hasn't been buried under paperwork yet," Alexis said calmly. "So far there's only a small mountain that's been neglected rather than a landslide."
Clint snickered.
"You sound like Phil," he said. "Always bitching about paperwork." |
"That's because paperwork is the worst thing in the world." Alexis shook her head. She had already straightened herself out as much as possible, her hair back in a bun for today. She was planning on heading out again as soon as she was done with her coffee.
"Must be why Stark always ignores his," Clint commented grinning a bit. "So what's the plan for today?"
"I finish my coffee and go do paperwork and the necessary notifications, and you lot stay out of trouble. As far as I'm aware, you have no plans for today." Alexis looked at Steve for confirmation, and he nodded.
"Not having plans doesn't mean anything," Bruce pointed out from over his tea. "Such things are a bit... fluid."
"Exactly why I want to get as much paperwork done as possible," Alexis said wryly. "In case you lot end up giving me more."
Clint just grinned.
"Good luck with that," he said. |
Alexis rolled her eyes and finished her coffee, putting the mug in the dishwasher and gathering up her things again so she could get going.
"I'll see you all in a week for my monthly visit, not that that means much anymore." Alexis waved briefly to them. |
"You'll be back before then," Clint said, grinning and giving a short wave back.
Alexis headed back to the office to see how much paperwork she could get done. It was a long day for her.
But not as long as the day someone decided to spell New York into a separate dimension and she landed in a different part of the city with no one else visibly near her. Pietro wasn't much better off that day. First an argument with Logan, then going to help find a rogue mutant, and now he was stuck in the middle of New York during a freak storm with only Autumn as company. Today was just great. |
Autumn, for the most part, was staying calm.
"Phone signals are out," she said as she checked all of her technology. "I tried Charles, I don't think he can hear me." |
