"Thank god," Autumn said. "I needed this vacation."
|
"Mmm." Alexis stretched out a bit.
For the first few days, everything was perfectly normal; they had good food, they got lots of relaxing time in, found a local faire to go to for one day. And then Alexis woke up when someone texted her. |
Clint had finally gotten fed up with the temporary handler. The kid obviously didn't know how to deal with the Avengers as a group, even though things were still technically getting done, and Clint was just done putting up with it.
This kid has no idea what he's doing. We want you back. |
I am on a well-deserved vacation, Alexis texted back, a bit grumpy that he'd woken her up. I'll be back in a little over a week. Besides, the temporary handler can't be that bad.
|
He tried to tell Stark to stop working for the night, Clint deadpanned, as if that explained everything.
|
And indeed it did.
Well, he doesn't know better yet, he'll learn, Alexis texted after several moments. |
Not fast enough. None of us like him, we want you back. Almost whining, but not quite.
|
I'll be back sooner than you think, Alexis said as she got up. For now, go pester Stark or something.
|
Too early, he hasn't downed enough coffee yet today. And yes, Clint did keep an eye on that, and subtly switched the grounds for half-caf after the third pot.
|
Alexis snorted. Natasha, then, I'm sure if you go complain to her about the temp handler she'll be happy to give you a distraction.
Although what kind of distraction Alexis didn't want to think about too carefully. |
Clint snorted.
She's off solo for the moment. Couslon's orders. |
Which meant Coulson didn't trust her with the temp handler. Okay, he must be really bad.
Alright, fine, I get the point, he sucks. You'll just have to wait for me to get back, I'm enjoying the sun too much to go back right now. |
How long is that going to take? Because Clint was seriously considering following her.
|
Like I said, a week, week and a half. Alexis shrugged. She didn't feel bad about that at all.
Not yet, anyway. |
Where'd you go, anyways? Because if there was one thing he could do, it was gather the intel he needed. If asking directly didn't work, he'd see if Tony could hack the system and find her.
|
Florida. It's warm, it's not the right time of year that I feel like I'm inhaling my water, and there's no villains here. Those were three major factors in her book at the moment.
|
Florida? California's got that, too. Now he was just whining a bit; he didn't like Florida much. All of the ops he had that were in Florida had gone a bit off.
|
California's also got Malibu, which would be too much of an invitation for Stark, Alexis texted back. So Florida it is for a while.
|
Where are you in Florida? Miami? West Palm? Because as soon as he knew, he'd tell the others. And Clint doubted it would take much to get Tony to fly them all out to Florida for a while.
|
Ha, no. Stay in New York, Barton. Coulson doesn't like it when you take non-approved field trips. Because Alexis could tell that telling him where she was would be a bad idea.
|
Fine. Plan B, then. Quickly, Clint texted Tony. Alexis is in Florida for another week.
You're no fun, he then whined at Alexis. |
Give me two hours and we can be on my jet heading down there, Tony texted back. Because yes, he was that frustrated with the temporary handler too.
It's not in my job description to be fun. Now stop pestering me, I need to go shower and grab Autumn. |
Fine. Clint grinned at Tony's text, however.
|
Tony was as good as his word, and two hours later he had his jet fueled up and all set to head down to Miami. Because of course he'd hacked in to see where the GPS showed she was.
"Ready, birdbrain?" he asked, a bag in hand as he looked at Clint. It would be a quick drive to the airport, after all. |
"Let's go, Tin Man," Clint said, nodding. He hefted his bag on his shoulder.
