Tony grinned and drove them to the airport, and then settled on his jet for the flight down to Florida.
Alexis, by that point, was out with Autumn, doing a bit of window shopping in a mall. Because she could and she wasn't expecting company. |
Autumn was having fun window shopping. She saw a lot of things that she liked, and some of them she was even able to justify buying for herself.
Although the coffee mug was for Coulson. The man went through coffee almost as fast as Stark. |
Alexis bought a few things here and there, although she tried not to get too much.
When her phone buzzed at her, though, she ignored it. Three times in a row. |
Finally, Clint gave up texting and just called.
"Seriously, you going to ignore me all day?" |
"Yes," Alexis said, rolling her eyes. "I am out shopping and doing normal, non-stressful things. You are making my blood pressure skyrocket, and I do not approve."
|
"Fine, then just tell me where you'll be in about fifteen minutes," Clint said. "Then I'll stop calling."
|
"In fifteen minutes?" Alexis turned an incredulous look on Autumn. "Barton, what did you do? Where are you?"
|
"I didn't do anything," Clint said, grinning. "It was all Tony's idea, blame him."
|
Alexis looked at Autumn, caught somewhere between crying and hiding in her hotel room.
"In fifteen minutes, I will be jumping off the nearest cliff. Or diving without SCUBA gear. One of the two." |
"Now that's just a lie," Clint said. "Come on, I bet if you let us find you, Stark'll treat for dinner."
|
"He damn well better be," Alexis said. "And whatever else I decide I need on this trip, he won't notice the difference anyway."
|
Clint just snickered.
"So? Location? Or I can just come and find you, you know." |
Alexis sighed and rattled off the name of the mall and the store they were currently outside of.
"We'll be in that area, no guarantees where exactly, depends when we get distracted." |
"Great," Clint said, grinning. "See you in a few."
|
Alexis hung up and took a few seconds to compose herself.
"I have a new record for My Asset from Hell. They followed me here." |
Autumn looked at her.
"They did not," she said in disbelief. |
"They did. Barton and Stark followed me." Alexis shook her head. "Apparently their temp handler is just that terrible. That or they decided I needed to have a breakdown."
|
"I am so, so sorry," Autumn said, hugging her friend.
|
Alexis returned the hug.
"They'll be here soon, so I totally understand if you want to bail out now while you still can." |
"I won't leave you to that fate alone," Autumn said. "I'll stay."
|
Alexis nodded a bit.
Not even ten minutes later, Tony was striding over to them, sunglasses and public smile in place. Whoops. Guess he really was pissed with that new handler. |
Autumn just sighed and rubbed Alexis's shoulder a bit.
Clint was right behind Tony, grinning. |
"You two are explaining to Coulson, I am not touching the paperwork for this one," Alexis said, giving them both a Look.
"I'll pay for dinner," Tony said, unaffected by the Look. "And a few other things, you're getting me in so much trouble right now." Tony blinked and looked at Clint. "So, what, about two pairs of shoes, if I go by Pepper scale?" he asked. |
"Don't ask me, I don't buy shoes like that on a regular basis," Clint said, holding up his hands.
|
"Right, about two pairs of shoes. Got it." Tony grinned. "Well, carry on with your normal day."
Alexis glowered for a moment before she looked at Autumn. "Where to now?" |
