"Really?" Autumn asked, a little surprised. "I didn't realize they noticed when I'm not there. I mean, I only drop in once every few weeks or so, it's not like I'm there all the time."
"No but you have a particular style, and you usually check in every few days," Pietro said with a shrug. "When things are suddenly done differently, we all notice."
"I'll make a note of that," Autumn said. "If I ever take another vacation."
Pietro snorted and looked out the window briefly when he heard thunder.
"I wondered when those clouds would catch up to me." |
"Passed them on your way here?" Autumn guessed.
Pietro nodded. "Saw them looming overhead, at least briefly." He grinned a bit. "I expect it'll be wet for a while."
"That's alright," Autumn said. "I don't mind staying in for tonight."
"I should hope not, considering the hour," Pietro said dryly. He stretched a bit before going to sit on her couch, settling down.
"When it comes to working for SHIELD, there's no longer any such thing as 'too early' or 'too late'. There's only 'right the fuck now,'" Autumn said, settling on her bed with a sigh.
"I'm sure." Pietro shook his head. "I can honestly say I am not surprised."
"And I told Charles to call me if there were any emergencies," Autumn added. "So nobody would have to deal with my replacement."
Pietro nodded. "I doubt you'll hear anything tonight. When I left, they were all settling in for a movie night."
Autumn nodded.
"Good," she said. "Movie night should calm everyone down well enough." |
Pietro nodded and relaxed a bit, stretching out briefly before going still again.
"So why Florida? Any reason?" |
"Weather's nice," Autumn said. "Nowhere near as much of a trouble-attracting hotspot as New York or California."
"True enough," Pietro agreed with a little shrug. He could see why that would be a prerequisite for her.
"I could have left the country," Autumn said. "I considered it. Gone to Aruba or something for vacation. But I'd be too far away if an emergency happened. At least in Florida, I'm only a couple hours away."
Pietro nodded. "Fortunately there have not been any emergencies, and hopefully there will not be any."
"We hope there won't be any," Autumn said. "Actual chance of it happening tends to hover around fifty-fifty on a normal day."
Pietro shrugged. He thought that another team could deal with it, but he was also feeling rather lazy now.
Flopping back over, Autumn sighed and settled in.
"May as well settle in," she said as thunder rumbled outside. "We can call room service for food in a bit." |
Pietro nodded and relaxed there, settling in as he listened to rain start to pound the building.
Autumn briefly checked her emails before opening up a fresh text to Alexis.
You're not the only one. Pietro showed up. |
Yikes. How's that going? Alexis couldn't help but grin though, glad she wasn't the only one that had been dragged back into her work. Especially since Clint and Tony were debating the merits of dragging her in for a movie night.
It could be so much worse. Autumn grinned a bit. He's no Stark or Barton, that's for sure.
