Clint nodded and went to get his gear. He was known for keeping at least one weapon with him, so nobody would question why he had a bow. Then he went back to Alex so they would meet Natasha at the jet.
Alexis settled in for the flight, since the other two were piloting, and pondered over the message. There was no reason she could think of to be calling people in to the Triskelion.
You get an odd recall message too? she texted Autumn. |
You too? Autumn asked. Vague, slightly off-putting? Okay, so Alexis found it as odd as Autumn did, which set her more at ease. She wasn't just being paranoid.
Very much so. I tried to get Natasha and Clint to stay out of it for now but they're stubborn. Alexis huffed. But something about this feels wrong.
So it's not just me. That's kind of comforting, in a twisted way. I told Charles to keep an eye on things, just in case. Something about this whole thing seems weird. Between texts, Autumn arranged for a car to take her to the Triskelion.
Yeah well there is something weird about this, I swear. It's making me uneasy. I'm hoping it's nothing much actually and it's just me being paranoid. Because if it was something bad, that would be very, very bad.
If it's paranoia, then we're both paranoid. Autumn shook her head a bit. And we're usually not this paranoid. Calling everyone back, but no emergency code? Something's not right.
Exactly. There's just something wrong about this whole situation, and I'm not sure I want to know what. Alexis shook herself. Either way, we'll be down there in an hour or so.
Same. And even though Autumn was on crutches and in a SHIELD car, she was still on guard.
When the jet landed, Alexis got out but she stayed close to the other two.
"Something's not right here," she muttered, glancing around. Things were too quiet and too controlled. |
"You think?" Clint asked, his hand itching to go for his bow. Natasha's hands curled into loose fists.
"Down, boy," Alexis said, her voice light though she was glancing around. "Let's at least see if we can get into the building without hurting anyone."
Clint didn't reply, he just glanced around warily. Something was definitely not right. But he followed Alexis into the building quietly, not raising a fuss.
Alexis glanced around for any signs about where they needed to go or what was going on. When none seemed forthcoming, she glanced back at the other two with a shrug.
"Head upstairs," Natasha advised. "To Fury's office." She gestured to the elevators.
Alexis waited for the elevator and got on with her two. As they started to ascend, though, more people got on, until the three were with eight others in the elevator. Alexis balled her hands into loose fists, waiting.
Natasha eyed them all as they got into the elevator, doing risk assessments in her head and subtly signalling to Clint. All of the newcomers were armed, at least four of them were heavily armed. That was not a good sign, considering that there was no emergency happening yet.
One last agent got on to the elevator, looking at Natasha and Clint and ignoring Alexis for the moment. "Pierce wants to see you two," he said. Then he glanced at Alexis. "Sitwell is expecting you."
"Is he now? I wasn't aware he dealt with the handlers, not a long-term basis." Alexis kept her voice pleasant. |
The agent shrugged a bit.
"Just passing the message," he said. "Not my ass on the line if you don't go." |
"Hey, just thought I'd ask, people don't normally just take shit orders." Alexis smiled pleasantly at him, watching someone in her peripheral vision finger one of the new-ish electrified batons. Well that wasn't good.
"Like I said, not my ass on the line," the agent replied, shifting his weight a bit.
Natasha made a show of adjusting one of the weapons on her wrist, the power indicators on her Widow's Bites flashing for a moment. She and Clint could easily take down eight agents. None of them were trained like she and her partner were. |
Alexis wasn't worried about that, but she was worried about space. So when one agent jumped the gun a bit and pulled his weapon, she ducked down to give the other two better shots and kicked someone's leg out.
As soon as the gun was up, Natasha lashed out with her Widow's Bites, shocking the agent and putting him on the floor. That seemed to open the flood gates, and the other agents tried to attack as well. Natasha and Clint moved like a well-oiled machine, working with each other to take down every attacker. Even though Clint had no room to use his bow, he wasn't helpless without his weapon and even managed to grab a stun baton off of one of the agents and use it.
Alexis got a bit banged up, since she managed to get on the other side of the elevator, but she only got hit with one of the stun batons once. And she kicked the agent responsible in the head.
"Well, that was a little troublesome," Natasha commented, adjusting her bracelet weapons again and then flipping her hair over her shoulder.
