"I stumbled on it, almost literally," Alexis said with a shrug. "Couldn't sleep."
Natasha smirked and whipped out her phone. He has one in the tower. He's had one before but it requires a decent amount of space so he can't always have one. They're surprisingly comfortable. |
Clint just gave her a rather baffled look. It just wasn't possible to 'stumble on' his pillow nest, it was out of the way for that exact reason.
Autumn bit her lip to keep from snickering. Yeah, she wasn't surprised about the pillow nest. |
"What? You think you're the only one that goes looking for quiet spots?" Alexis snorted at him, glancing around briefly to see if their pick-up was there yet. Just in case.
"In the utility corridor?" Clint retorted. He was cut off from saying anything else when they finally heard engines overhead. The Bus came down into the clearing, its rotating engines allowing it a completely vertical landing.
"And that would be our ride, people," Fury said. |
Alexis whistled quietly and headed over to the Bus, keeping pace with Autumn. "Nice ride," she muttered.
"Director," Coulson greeted as the ramp lowered. "Nice to see you again." |
"We can exchange pleasantries once we're in the air, Phil," Fury replied as he made sure his agents all got on the plane. Autumn hobbled up the ramp, pausing a moment to ogle the lovely red car. There were stories about Lola, after all.
"The meeting room is upstairs," Coulson said, shooting Clint a look that was simultaneously "glad to see you" and "don't break anything or I'll make you regret it". Alexis snerked at that but stayed at the back of the group.
Clint smirked in return and got onto the plane.
"Nice place, Phil," he said. "Who'd you win it off of?" |
"Director Fury," Coulson said dryly. He made sure everyone got upstairs to the meeting room before the door closed again and May took off again. Alexis settled in against a wall to let someone else take over for a while.
Clint snickered and disappeared into the vent system. The Bus was big enough to have one, and Clint intended to map it out for himself.
Autumn, on the other hand, was fiddling with her phone. "Is there any way to get a signal out?" she asked. "I need to check in with Charles and update him on the situation." |
Coulson nodded. "You should be getting one now," he said. "Go ahead and contact whoever you need to." He didn't think he needed to tell her to be discrete though.
"Thanks," Autumn said, sifting through her contacts. She dialed Charles.
"Hello, Autumn," Charles said when he picked up. "How did things go?" He knew something had happened, he just didn't know what.
"Badly," Autumn replied with a sigh. "So badly there aren't really words for it. Nobody tried to come out and bother you all, did they?" Because that was what she had been worried about; she was afraid that HYDRA would try to get at the Xavier school somehow once they got around to the assets assigned to the agents.
"Not yet," Charles said. "Everyone is keeping their eyes open. I doubt anyone will catch us unaware. Everyone is staying here for a while." He could tell she was worried, so he was quiet for a few moments. "Do you need any help?"
"I'm alright for now," Autumn replied. "Charles, it's... not good. Keep an eye on the news, it's bound to explode soon." She was quiet for a moment. "I just need to make sure you all stay safe enough. I'm still your agent."
"Don't worry about us, we'll all stay safe," Charles told her. "I'll alert you if anything changes. You need to stay safe, as well."
"Alright," Autumn said. "I'll do what I can. No promises, but I'll stay as safe as I can."
Charles nodded. "Good. Contact me again soon, and I'll tell you if there are any changes in the meantime."
"I will," Autumn promised. With that, she hung up and settled back in her seat a bit. She was relieved to know that the mutants as a whole were still alright.
Alexis was settled in comfortably, because she knew the other Avengers were fine, and Clint and Natasha were right where she could see them. Thankfully.
Clint didn't stay there for long, though; within a few minutes, he was back in the vents exploring the jet.
"So this is where you disappeared to once you gave us all our assignments," Autumn commented to Coulson, looking around. "I thought the Globemasters were all decommissioned once the Helicarrier went up." |
"I managed to get this one special," Coulson said with a bit of a smile. "It's the best mobile command option, and it works well for us."
"Because the Director never plays favorites or anything," Autumn said dryly, grinning. Fury raised an eyebrow and snorted.
"Be grateful I do," he retorted. "Elsewise we wouldn't have had an extraction plan in place." |
"It's Coulson," Alexis pointed out, as if that explained everything. Which, really, it should.
