"I'm fine," Autumn said as she carefully sat down on the bed. "No more hurt than I was going in." She massaged her leg a little, being careful of the healing wound.
"How much longer until you're healed?" Pietro actually perched in a chair rather than pacing the room again.
"Bullet holes take a while," Autumn said. "Probably another couple of weeks or so."
Pietro made a face but nodded. "Alright." He could wait, then. Well, kind of. He could adjust accordingly.
"Why?" Autumn asked, looking at him. "What's the rush?" She paused. "Aside from the whole crisis with SHIELD."
Pietro shrugged. "I'm sure we'll all feel better when you're up and running around as normal," he said. Which was part of the reason, but only part of it.
"I'm working on it," Autumn said. "I'm doing everything I can not to slow down the healing."
Pietro nodded. "At least you're back now." He was quiet for a moment. "Want tea or anything? I was thinking of grabbing a snack."
Autumn smiled a bit.
"That would be great, if it isn't too much trouble," she said. Tea sounded wonderful after the week she'd had. |
Pietro nodded. "I'll be back in a minute." He left to go make tea for her, giving her some time to settle in.
Autumn grinned a bit and settled in a little. She relaxed back on the bed, carefully stretching out her leg.
It didn't take Pietro long to finish the tea and take it up to her room, along with his own snack and enough for her. Cookies, because there were always cookies around the mansion.
Autumn took the tea gratefully.
"Thanks," she said. "How has everyone been faring here recently, since everything started?" |
"Things here have been good," Pietro said with a shrug. "Normal, actually, pretty calm."
"I'm surprised," Autumn murmured. "I guess it seemed like the whole world should have been falling apart. That's what it felt like out there."
"Not the whole world." Pietro shrugged. "Not here, anyway. So far we haven't had any changes." And he was hoping things would stay that way for a while now.
"I just hope they don't come after anyone here," Autumn said. "It's my job to stay between the X-Men and the rest of the world, and it's going to be hard to do that now." She sighed. "I don't want anything to happen."
"If anything does happen, we'll deal with it," Pietro said. "We'll see how things go. Don't worry so much when nothing's happened yet."
"It's my job to worry," Autumn protested. She sipped her tea and sighed a little, lapsing into silence.
Pietro snagged another cookie to munch on, also staying quiet for the moment.
After a few minutes, though, he said, "Tomorrow we can go by your place and grab whatever you need. Kurt will help out." |
Autumn considered that for a moment and then nodded. It would be easier with the teleporter helping, especially if her apartment was under surveillance.
"Alright," she said. "There shouldn't be much, my apartment isn't that big and I don't own all that much stuff." |
"Well then Kurt won't be able to complain," Pietro said with a faint smirk. "We'll take a couple boxes or bags or something with us."
"Kurt has no reason to complain anyways, tell him we're letting him sneak around the government," Autumn said, waving a hand and grinning a bit. "He loves doing that."
Pietro snorted. "He volunteered when I mentioned what we'd need to do, so he shouldn't complain."
Autumn grinned and sipped her tea again. She would worry about getting her things tomorrow, for the moment she just wanted to relax a little and catch her breath.
