Pietro was glad she was taking some time to relax and catch up. She needed it, after all.
Over the next few weeks, Autumn managed to get her leg to heal up most of the way while staying relatively under the governmental radar. She stayed in contact with the other former-handlers (although Coulson was the only one able to keep in contact with Fury) and they managed to hold things together while the whole Hydra fiasco slowly started to settle.
Pietro took time with her when he could, and he got her to take a couple hours out at least once a week to investigate a new food place, see a movie, or just relax. Because he was going to take care of her no matter what.
While Autumn didn't see the outings for what they were, Wanda certainly did.
"You think you're so slick," she teased as she cornered her brother after dinner one evening. "Where did you take her this time?" |
Pietro looked shifty for a few moments.
"A bakery," he admitted. "Little family run place." |
"Aww, a cozy little place for a date," Wanda teased. "Honestly, Pietro, Autumn has to be the only one who hasn't caught on yet. Practically the whole mansion knows you're taking her on dates."
Pietro shrugged. "So?" He knew that she didn't know yet, but that was okay, he was still getting to take her out.
"So tell her already," Wanda said, nudging him. "I don't know if you've noticed, but she's kind of started making eyes at you, too." It wasn't obvious, not yet, but Wanda had definitely seen Autumn watching Pietro when the agent thought the runner wasn't looking.
Pietro blinked. "Started," he pointed out. "Doesn't mean she actually wants anything. I mean what if she says no after I tell her?"
"You respect her choice and see if it changes later," Wanda said. She shrugged. "I'm not pushing you into anything, brother. Wait, if you like."
Pietro huffed. "I know," he muttered. "But it's fine as it is. Better than nothing."
"And is it enough?" Wanda asked. She sighed. "I know you care for her, brother."
Pietro was quiet for a moment. "I know. I don't know. It might be enough. For now."
Wanda nodded a bit.
"Perhaps your next outing could be to the aquarium?" she suggested. "Something a little out of the ordinary?" |
Pietro nodded. "So long as nothing else gets in the way," he agreed. "I like the aquarium idea."
Wanda nodded.
"Alright," she said. She grinned. "At least I won't be there to make a mess like when we were kids." |
Pietro snorted. "We both made a mess there, remember?" He grinned. "I'll have to try to avoid making a mess this time."
"You only had the mess to run around in because I collapsed the bridge out in the lily pond," Wanda pointed out, grinning. She waved a hand. "Go on and plan your little outing. You still need to ask Autumn to go with you."
Pietro snorted again and shook his head but headed back to his room to plan things. Because she was right about that; he did need to plan this outing.
Autumn, however, had other things to worry about. HYDRA still had all of the information they needed on all of the SHIELD agents who had disappeared into hiding, and were doing their best to flush them all out. Accounts were frozen, credit was ruined, and background checks were turning up nasty little things like assignment histories and body counts. Autumn was scrambling to reach out to any of her contacts that could help, and the number of contacts willing to talk to her was dwindling quickly.
Alexis, fortunately, was having some better luck, since she worked with Tony. And as soon as Tony found out what was happening, he went just about ballistic and went around planting viruses that would activate as soon as anyone tried to mess with Alexis's accounts and such.
But she called Autumn to check on her, figuring the other agent would be having the same issues. |
Autumn considered herself lucky that her phone hadn't been shut off yet.
"Hey," she said when Alexis called. "What's up?" |
"I've been running into some issues, thought you might be experiencing the same," Alexis said without preamble. "And I really want to get the people doing this. It wasn't even personal until they put up my kill records."
"At least it's not just me," Autumn said. She made an aggravated sound. "They froze my personal accounts and razed my credit, and then the assignment records hit. I've got next to nothing, it's a nightmare."
"I'm slightly better off because I have Tony Stark here," Alexis said. "He's tracking down the bastards. He can help you out too, he won't mind, I'll just bribe him."
