"No problem." Pietro looked around again. "Try not to let any more statues fall on your position."
"Everything okay?" Alexis asked through the comms, not quite daring to take her eyes off the battle just then. |
"We're good," Autumn replied over the comms. She glanced at Pietro. "I'll try to keep an eye out. But thanks."
"You might want to move away from that spot, Agents," Clint added over the comms. "That whole section's starting to look mighty crumbly." |
Pietro nodded and heard Clint's comment over the comms. He didn't just run off, though, instead keeping pace with Autumn.
He figured the professor would Have Words with him if he let anything happen to her now. "Understood." Alexis moved to a different section, shooting down another Sentinel while Tony took care of two for her. "Almost done, everyone, just a handful left." |
Autumn noticed that Pietro was essentially standing guard, but she didn't say anything about it. It was a good idea, and besides, she had three other X-Men to keep an eye on, and one of them was Logan.
|
Pietro didn't move until the last Sentinel had been taken down, and then he moved out of the way so SHIELD clean-up could do their jobs and the girls could talk to the teams.
Alexis walked over once the X-Men were assembled again. "Thanks for the assist," she said, shooting them a quick smile. |
"No problem," Autumn replied. "It's not often we get to actually work together like this." She looked around. "So. Doctor Doom with a small army of Sentinels. That doesn't bode well."
|
"Not at all. And, of course, he's vanished." Alexis made a face. "Well, Tony will start in on a Sentinel, see what the programming is, and I'll let you know when I know anything."
|
"Thanks," Autumn said. "We're going to drag one back, as well, Hank wanted to take one apart." She shook her head. "One of us should poke at Maya, see if she can tell us where the Four were today. Clearly Doom knew he was picking a day where they weren't going to be around."
|
"I'll contact Maya after I get this group back to the Tower," Alexis said. She had been the agent in charge, after all. "Anything I need to know about? Injuries, abnormalities?"
|
Autumn glanced over her group quickly, and then shook her head.
"Nothing worth reporting," she said. "Maybe some bruises on Kitty, but that's probably it. Anything on Logan's probably already healed, and Piotr just doesn't get hurt when he's got his metal on. And Pietro stayed with us." |
"Good." Alexis sighed. "Well, I'll contact you when I've got paperwork for you to sign off on and when I hear from Maya. Have a safe trip back." She nodded to the group before going to go round up her group and get them back.
|
Autumn nodded.
"Alright," she said. "Give me a call when you have everything." |
"Will do." Alexis went to go corral her team and head back to the Tower with them to do a debrief and start the paperwork.
She did keep an eye on Clint, though, since he occasionally thought it was funny to wander off on his own without telling her. |
And indeed, Clint was working his way towards hi preferred entrance into the ceiling vents. Time to unwind and maybe go see if Stark had some new toys for him.
|
"Clint, no, bad, get back down here," Alexis ordered. Steve just sighed at him. "Come on, quick meeting first, then you can go hide in your nest."
|
Clint made a face, but dropped back down from where he was already half-way into the ceiling.
"C'mon, guys, we were all there," he said. "Doom, Sentinels, some of the X-men showed up to help, what else is there to have a meeting about?" |
"Clint," Alexis said with a weary sigh. "You know by now this is protocol. Just sit tight so I can get this done and then get a drink."
Natasha looked amused even as she snagged Clint. |
"Ack-- Tasha, you traitor," Clint whined as he let himself get steered over to a seat.
|
Alexis was careful to keep the meeting short. "Bruce and Jarvis, keep an eye on Tony for me please. Everyone else, dismissed." Alexis sighed and rubbed her temples. "God I need a drink."
|
That caught Clint's attention.
"What a coincidence," he said, "so do I." He grinned. "And I know where Stark keeps the good stuff." |
"I would not at all mind having a glass of Stark's good stuff," Alexis said as she stood. "Lead the way."
|
Clint grinned and lead her out of the room and into where he knew Tony kept some of the good alcohol. It barely took him any time at all to jimmy open the lock on the alcohol cabinet, and he bowed with a flourish.
"After you," he said. |
"You are amazing, Barton," Alexis said with a grin. She poured herself a glass and set a second glass out for him before going to sit on a couch.
|
Clint grinned at the praise and perched himself on the arm of the couch with his glass. It really was the good alcohol, too; he could almost feel the moment it hit his system.
|
Alexis gave a happy sigh at the good stuff. "Oh man this is good. I'll take payment in this stuff."
