"It tingles," Paige said, letting go of the metal. Her skin went back to normal and she handed the little chunk back to him.
Tony snickered and set the little chunk next to him for the moment, finishing up Widow's bracelets and setting them off to the side. Then he stretched out a bit, trying to work the kinks out of his shoulders.
Paige saw and went over to him.
"Here, hold still," she said. She started to massage his shoulders, working out what kinks she could. |
Tony blinked and jerked a bit, unused to that, but held still as she worked, slowly relaxing.
Paige worked her thumbs into the worst of the knots, trying to get them to loosen. She worked on his shoulders, mostly, trying to loosen the tension she felt there.
Tony let her continue for a bit before he shook himself a little.
"Thanks," he said, sounding a bit surprised still. |
"No problem," Paige said as she stopped. "Feel any better?"
"Yeah," Tony admitted. "I do." Which was surprising. He normally couldn't stand to let people give him a massage. Huh. He'd ponder that little surprise later. Like maybe never.
"Let me know if you ever want another one," Paige said. She stretched a bit. "I should go get some sleep. The kids are going to be bouncing off the walls tomorrow."
Tony nodded. "I'm sure they will be, and they'll be up pretty early." He waved her off. "Go rest."
Paige nodded.
"Good night," she said, heading out of the workshop again. She padded back to her room quietly, and slipped back into bed to sleep. |
By the next morning when Tony emerged, the kids were up, Steve was making pancakes, and news was rapidly circulating about the baby. Tony just grumbled and made grabby hands at the coffee machine. The non-sentient one.
Paige was sitting at the table with the kids crowded around her, all cooing over pictures of the new baby that Crystal had texted her. She didn't mind being crowded on; it kept the kids out from underfoot so Captain Rodgers could cook.
She tried not to think too hard about the fact that Captain America was cooking breakfast. |
Tony got his coffee, downed a cup of it, and went slower on the second cup, peering over her shoulder at the pictures.
"Cute," he said, grinning briefly. "I bet Charles is ecstatic." |
"I'm thinking that's a given," Paige replied, grinning a bit.
Tony snorted. "Well, he'll be broadcasting like crazy, so be prepared to be unnecessarily happy for a few days," he said.
"I'd rather be happy than the alternative," Paige pointed out. She made a mental note to ask Crystal if anything could be done about shielding, though.
Tony nodded and moved out of the way when Steve set down the first plate of pancakes on the table.
Paige jumped slightly when Steve seemed to appear out of nowhere behind her, and one of her hnds flattened on the table before she could stop herself. She relaxed when he put the plate down.
"Thanks," she said, looking up at him briefly. Putting her phone away, she started working on getting the little kids to eat. |
Breakfast was even more chaotic than normal because of the kids, but nothing got burned or broken, so Tony and Steve both counted it a success.
There were a couple of near mishaps ("No, Wanda, no, you can't play with the toaster.") but everyone made it through breakfast just fine, and Paige ran out of excuses to placate the kids with. So she rounded them up to head back to the mansion.
Crystal was finally getting some sleep, curled up near Charles and the new little one, all three of them just resting while they still could.
Paige managed to get the kids into the mansion in an orderly fashion, but that's where it ended. The excitement took over from there, and they all went searching for Charles. Alex and Darwin managed to keep them mostly under control, though. Mostly.
So when the first of the kids bounced into Charles's bedroom, Charles was already awake and shushed the kids so they wouldn't wake Crystal, who was still asleep.
Remy, Paige, if you two could possibly come back to my room, I believe Crystal needs to be relocated before the children try to take over my bed. |
Of course, Charles, Remy replied, heading towards the right room. Are you and le petite still alright?
