"What serial killer would want t' go toe t' toe with Gambit?" Remy asked, grinning a bit. "Poor fool'd get the daylights scared outta him."
"Fortunately," Crystal said with a grin. "Not that you look like the type to be able to scare the wits out of a serial killer."
Remy grinned.
"Coupla sparks here and there, 'spode a card or two, they take off runnin'," he said. |
"Anyone smart would," Crystal said with a little laugh. "It's usually not a good sign when someone starts sparking."
"No indeed," Remy agreed, grinning. "Times like that make it good to be us, non?"
"Absolutely." Crystal shook her head a bit. Because yes she had had to deal with that in the past.
"Now, really, relax," Remy said. "Bus rides are the best times to nap, this is a fact."
Crystal snorted. "Are you going to?" She was rather curious about that.
"What, nap?" Remy asked. "'Course, why not? Not the whole time, but some of it."
Crystal grinned and leaned back in her seat, settling in for the ride. If he was going to nap, she figured she might as well too.
Remy napped on and off until the bus hit the first rest stop.
"Hungry, chere?" he asked, nudging Crystal. "Food stop." |
"Sure," Crystal agreed, stretching a bit in her seat. "We can at least grab something to snack on until the next stop."
Remy nodded.
"Best be quick," he said. "Don't want them leavin' without us." |
Crystal nodded and waited for him to get off to head inside and grab some snacks to take back on the bus.
Remy let her get some snacks while he went and grabbed some fast food. A full-size meal would keep them both happy for a while, the snacks would be for later on. He met back up with her afterwards and got back onto the bus.
"Here, chere," he said, handing her a wrapped sub and a bottle of soda. |
Crystal blinked. She hadn't even thought about that. "Thanks," she said, taking the food. "Good call."
"My pleasure, chere," Remy said as he unwrapped his own sandwich. "I think I made sure t' get th' kinda things you like."
Crystal snorted. "I'm surprised you paid attention." It's not the kind of thing she would have expected. Not from anyone really.
"Why wouldn' I?" Remy asked, honestly curious. "I do care about you, chere, 'course I'd pay attention."
"I'm still getting used to that," Crystal admitted. "It takes a while."
"Got plenty of time to get used to it," Remy said, grinning a bit. "Gambit's not plannin' on goin' anywhere outta reach."
Crystal shook her head, settling in again. He confused her sometimes.
The rest of the bus ride was spent comfortably. It wasn't silent, far from it, but Remy was almost actually relaxed when the bus finally let them off in Raleigh, North Carolina.
"So what say you now, chere?" he asked, stretching once they were off the bus. "Catch another bus, or make our own way?" |
"We can start making our own way," Crystal said after a moment. "Should be interesting, at least."
Remy grinned.
"Indeed it will," he said, hefting his bag onto his shoulder. "Come on, then. I know a place we can get some good food and a room for the night." |
