Charles noticed and frowned slightly.
"Tony," he said, "did you actually introduce yourself to our guests?" |
"Um. No?" Tony shrugged and looked at the girls. "Hi, nice to meet you both, I'm Tony Stark."
Crystal made that strangled squeaking sound again and attempted to huddle down into the smallest possible target. |
Paige just gaped a bit, her brain shorting out. Because holy shit Tony Stark.
Darwin snickered a bit. "Papa, you shouldn't do that to people," he said to Charles. "It's not nice." |
Charles looked at the two and frowned, wringing his hands. "Oh, dear, I didn't mean to," he said, sounding distraught.
"Calm down," Erik instructed him, kissing his forehead before going to take the two poor shell-shocked girls over to the sanctuary of the couch. |
"Is there anyone else we need to know about around here?" Paige asked faintly as she was steered over to the couch.
"You haven't put it together yet, have you?" Darwin asked sympathetically as he went to sit with them. "You've heard of Dr. Xavier, right? Leading name in genetics?" |
"I don't think many mutants haven't heard of Dr. ...Charles... Xavier..." Crystal swallowed hard as she looked at the round British man still in the kitchen. Then she hid her face in her hands and did her best not to have a breakdown while Tony laughed.
|
Paige made a face and slumped back on the couch, trying very hard not to have an emotional breakdown. Because one was definitely threatening to happen.
"The universe is clearly screwing with us," she mumbled. |
Erik was grinning too by now, clearly not all that sympathetic. "Sure you want to keep them?" he asked Charles.
Crystal was highly tempted to run while she still could. |
"They just need some time to settle and get used to things," Charles insisted. He knew the girls would fit right in once their shock eased.
|
"Keep saying that." Erik kissed his forehead again and went to go collect the books so the kids could get started on saving whatever they could. "You come help too, tin can and metal bones." He looked at Logan and Tony.
"I am so far above such menial things as this that it's not even funny. I have saved the world. Multiple times. I am not going to wear some silly fake-cape and tear paper to put in books." Tony glowered. |
"You might as well, Tony," Charles said. "I won't have you whining about being bored with nothing to do."
Logan just snorted and kept working on his coffee. The kids could handle the books, he was sure. |
"Logan's not leaping to his feet to help either," Tony pointed out, very nearly whining. "He doesn't get out of it if I don't."
|
"I'm more likely to tear books than fix 'em," Logan pointed out casually. "Not like you an' yer dainty little woman-hands, Stark."
|
Tony bristled at that, and Erik sighed, flicking them both with spoons.
"Honestly, Charles, you have to stop adopting stray dogs. Especially the ones with no manners." |
"Tony wandered in on his own, I'm afraid, I had nothing to do with that," Charles replied, although he did smile just a little bit in amusement.
|
Erik shook his head but left with Charles to go oversee the children. And he just had to hope that Tony didn't poke the new girls into messy breakdowns in the living room.
That would upset Charles. |
Paige just watched everything happen.
"We need to find a new place to live," she whispered to Crystal. "Like now." |
"Like yesterday," Crystal agreed quietly. "I saw at least one other paper besides the one Bushy has, and if we can get to a computer we can search more, too."
|
Paige nodded.
"Plannin' on runnin', then?" Logan asked the girls. "Tell Chuck before you leave, else he'll pout for weeks." |
Crystal gave up on squeaking and instead just tensed up and glowered at him. "And eavesdropping isn't very polite," she said. "Besides, we're not running, we've been told we can leave, and we have jobs and stuff to get back to."
|
Logan snorted.
"It's not eavesdroppin' when I can hear you just fine," he pointed out. "And you really think Chuck won't still pout when you leave?" |
"I... no? He shouldn't?" It sounded too much like a question still, which made Crystal scowl all the more fiercely at Logan.
|
Logan snorted.
"You haven't been around him long enough, then," he said. "He will." |
"Well he shouldn't," Crystal said, still glowering.
"He will anyway," Tony said. "And that is an impressive glower for someone who's all of twelve." That had her actively bristling, her hands glowing faintly. |
Paige promptly grabbed one of Crystal's wrists and shook her head a bit, even as Logan growled softly.
