"He's out where we can make him stop if we need to," Steve pointed out. "Much better than when he's in his workshop, we can barely drag him out of there."
"Point," Laurel said, nodding. She glanced over and sighed. "James, stop teasing the Roombas!"
Bucky jumped, having been about to sprinkle some flour on the floor for the little bots. "I'm not doing anything!" he lied, though he couldn't help but crack a grin. "It's Clint!" Indeed, Clint also had a handful of flour. "Clint, stop teasing the Roombas!" Laurel added without missing a beat. |
"I'm only feeding them," Clint said, sprinkling flour around anyway. Then he grinned, debating throwing some at Bucky.
"Children," Doreen muttered, rolling her eyes. "Shoo. Out of the kitchen." She made shooing motions at them. |
Clint snickered and left the kitchen, but Bucky lingered for a moment. He dusted his hands off over the sink (making sure to get the flour out of all of the joints of his metal hand) and then went over to grab a cookie.
Doreen grinned when she noticed. "They're not snickerdoodles this time," she teased, unable to resist nudging him a bit as she leaned against the counter.
"I noticed," Bucky replied, grinning. "But they're still good."
"Good to know you'll eat anything." Doreen grinned. "I was thinking of making blini again, and seeing if I can find a recipe for those awesome lemon Russian tart things."
"Sounds good," Bucky replied. He grinned a bit. "Ask Nat about the tarts, she might know where to find the recipe."
"I'll ask." Doreen grinned. "Figured everyone liked the blini, might as well make them again. Maybe this time I'll add cocoa powder."
"You're trying to spoil us," Bucky accused, grinning. "Not that I'm complaining."
"I'm always trying to spoil you," Doreen shot back with a grin. "Everyone needs comfort food, and for once in my life I can cook as much as I want and not have to worry about leftovers."
Bucky snorted.
"I'm surprised 'leftovers' is even still a word around here," he said. He knew very well that he and Steve ate enough to feed a whole squadron, not even counting Thor. |
"It's not anymore unless they're out on assignment," Dori said with a grin. "When I'm just feeding us there are leftovers."
"I'm surprised there are ever leftovers," Bucky said. He grinned. "And now look, apparently one more got adopted." He gestured over to where Sam was looking at the blueprints with Tony.
"Yeah, but I don't think he'll move in, not yet," Doreen pointed out. "So far he's an adopted free-pass guest." She grinned.
Bucky snorted.
"You think he's not going to be here five nights out of seven?" he pointed out. |
"Oh he will, maybe not this week, but he will be." Doreen grinned. "Just means I get to learn his preferences too."
Bucky snorted.
"You like cooking that much?" he asked. |
"I do." Doreen was quiet for a moment. "I can't do much around here, you know, so cooking for everyone and making sure everyone is fed and as comfortable as I can manage is good. It makes me feel less useless." She smiled a bit.
Bucky snorted.
"You're not useless if you can keep Stark and Barton in line," he said. His expression got a bit more serious. "And you're nowhere near useless to me. You helped me start remembering." Then the grim expression broke and he smirked. "But hey, far be it from me to discourage the kitchen overlord." |
Doreen looked at him for a moment, something stronger than gratitude hiding in her eyes for a moment before she smiled. "Thanks," she said quietly. "And of course you wouldn't discourage cooking, you eat enough for about four people."
"If I'm worth four, Steve must be worth like six," Bucky said, grinning. "And Thor's got to be worth eight or so." He'd seen the odd emotion in her eyes, but he couldn't pin down what it was. It made him feel oddly warm inside, though.
"So between the three of you I have to plan to feed a small army," Doreen teased with a grin. Her heart was still fluttering a bit.
"Pretty much," Bucky replied, grinning. "You've managed so far, though."
"So far," Doreen agreed with a smile. "Hopefully I can keep that up."
