"Mr. Stark and Dr. Banner are currently back in the lab," Jarvis answered. "Captain Rogers is in the gym, Agents Romanov and Coulson are in Conference Room 3 with Ms. Potts, and Agent Barton is, I believe, in the vents."
Laurel jumped again at the unexpected voice, but her surprise was quickly overcome.
"In the vents?" she repeated. |
"Indeed. He seems to have a fondness for them." Jarvis sounded mildly confused but still rather amused. He rather liked the Avengers, after all.
"What kind of person lives in the ventilation system?" Laurel asked, glancing up at the ceiling. "That isn't normal!"
"He is an Avenger as well as an agent of SHIELD," Jarvis pointed out dryly. "They are hardly ever normal."
"But hiding in the vents?" Laurel said helplessly. "Great. One lives in the vents, one builds kitchen appliances that can think, what else?"
Jarvis wisely did not reply to that, instead opting to remain silent and let them find out for themselves.
"I think this calls for a drink," Doreen muttered. |
"I think this calls for several," Laurel replied, sitting down again. "But I'd rather not get drunk here where there are superheroes to look at me disapprovingly for it. I'd rather get drunk at home. Or at that really good pub a few blocks down."
"We're not exactly in the same state anymore," Doreen pointed out. "We really need to figure out how this is going to work, because this is kind of a long commute from the LA area."
Laurel paused for a moment and then hung her head.
"We can't justify taking a jet every time we need to be here," she agreed. "Someone had better pay relocation for us, that's all I can say. I'm not moving into New York out of pocket." |
"Um, no, that would be way too freaking expensive," Doreen agreed. "We'll figure it out. Maybe in a bit once they're all back up here?"
"Agent Coulson has a general meeting scheduled for two hours from now to go over rules, your duties, your pay, and where you will be staying," Jarvis provided. |
"Meeting, right," Laurel said, looking the least bit terrified again. "We're going to be in the same room as all of them. Again. I don't know if my nerves can handle that again."
"Perhaps I shall suggest to Agent Coulson that only one or two of the team need be present," Jarvis said, taking pity on the two.
Laurel just nodded. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea.
"Thanks," she said. |
Doreen shook her head. "This is going to take getting used to," she muttered. "And a steep learning curve. But it will undoubtedly be more interesting than just watching Iron Man go for joyrides in the middle of the night."
"No kidding," Laurel said. She grinned a bit. "I may need to look into a good camcorder or something, my phone may not be good enough for the good pictures and videos anymore."
"Yeah really. Well we'll see what happens and what they say about pictures and videos and things." Doreen shrugged.
"Right," Laurel said. She was quiet for a moment. "Did we just sign up for an all-access pass to Avenger Tower?"
"I... maybe?" Doreen blinked. "That's quite possible. It makes sense, even."
"There are nerds out there who dream about getting into this place," Laurel said. "And we're sitting right in the living room."
"We weren't even planning on being here," Doreen said with a grin. "I wonder how many people are cursing us right now?"
"I can go check for trolls," Laurel offered, grinning. "I'd bet on at least a dozen or so. The vocal ones."
"Oh at least a dozen vocal ones," Doreen said with a grin. "This is going to be so entertaining over the next few days, just to watch."
"Oh it is," Laurel said. She paused, and then grinned. "You know... If Stark's been one of our sources from the start, maybe we can ask if he'll let us make some reaction GIFs of him, you know, for the trolls."
"Oh that would be so perfect," Doreen said with a little cackle. "So, so perfect."
