Bree chuckled. "That is kinda funny," she agreed with a grin. "I wonder if that somehow influenced things, like if they were already kind of accustomed to scenting each other, at least briefly. I don't know about Sherlock, but Charlotte likes to fly right around the borders of what she considers her territory."
"Who knows?" John said, grinning a bit. "It might have. But I do know that they're using us as a cover right now so Sherlock can look after Charlotte without her having to leave the nest."
"Oh I know. It's adorable. They're so into each other and neither of them is willing to admit it." Bree grinned. "But, hey, at least they found an excuse."
"I'm glad," John said. "They're good for each other, I think. Especially now with an egg to tend."
"Yes. Charlotte wouldn't have allowed anyone else this close, so it's good. I think they could work things out quite nicely between them." Bree smiled.
John chuckled.
"Imagine if we ended up with another clutch out of them outside of official breeding orders," he said. |
Bree grinned. "Oh now that would be interesting," she said. "I know that pairs do form, it does happen. But I think these two would give us all hell."
"You're probably right," John said, grinning. "We'll have to see what happens."
"And in the meantime, at least we still get to see each other," Bree said with a little blush and a smile.
"I think we're getting the best end of the deal," John agreed, smiling at her.
Bree nodded her agreement of that.
"So, I think we've got a little while longer before either of them tries to check on us. What would you like to do?" |
"Maybe a walk around the area? I've never been here before, and I'm sure there are places around here you like," John suggested.
"Sure." Bree smiled. "There's a very pretty lake not too far from here, and some other nice spots in the area. The lake is usually my favorite, though."
"Shall we, then?" John asked, smiling and offering her his arm.
"Sure." Bree took his arm and walked with him, showing him a few things as they walked and generally enjoying just having some time with him.
John enjoyed the walk too. It was very nice to have some time with Bree without the dragons around to interrupt.
Which, of course, meant that Sherlock found them at the lake and grumbled at them.
"Charlotte has been asking after you," he said, looking at Bree. Bree sighed. Well, it had been nice while it lasted. |
"Tell her we're on our way back," John said when he heard Bree's sigh. At least they had a little more time left, if he managed to get Sherlock to let them walk.
Sherlock grumbled. "Very well," he agreed, moving out of their way again and heading back to Charlotte.
"Well, it was going to end eventually," Bree said, looking at him briefly. |
"We knew it would," John agreed. He shook his head. "They can be wretched beasts sometimes, can't they? Too vain and selfish by half, and yet we still love them."
"Indeed." Bree smiled. "And somehow they're still selfless and caring when we need them to be most." She paused. "Which apparently is not right now."
"Apparently," John agreed. "They're going to be unmerciful while this egg is being tended."
"Probably. Oh well. We'll just have to take what we can get." Bree smiled.
"Yeah," John said. He walked her back to the little cabin. "I'll let you go from here, so I don't set Charlotte off by getting to close to her cave."
"Probably a good idea. I'll come see you again soon." Bree smiled and kissed his cheek before she headed back up to Charlotte's cave.
