Tiana waited until they were gone to go back to the bedroom.
"You heard?" she asked, looking at Avery. |
"All of it," Avery said. Her voice shook. "We can't stay. We have to leave now."
"I know." Tiana kept herself calm. "Start getting the boxes and I'll start pulling things out. We'll be fine, we'll just go to a different town, maybe move a few states over this time."
Avery just nodded and started pulling out every storage container she could find. They had to get all of the important stuff packed up right now, and they had to leave.
"Avery, dear, you're dusting," Tiana said, nodding to the bits of ice and snow that were falling on the floor behind Avery.
Avery paused and bit her lip.
"Sorry," she murmured, trying to get herself under control again. |
"It's okay. Why don't you take a few minutes and go relax? Go sit outside, maybe freeze a few things, just take some time. I've got packing under control for now." Tiana smiled at her.
"But that's exactly what got us into this trouble in the first place," Avery pointed out. "Me freezing things."
"I was just saying do it if it'll help," Tiana said. "Besides, we're not going to be in town for more than a couple more hours."
"I'll stay in here," Avery said after a moment. "The faster we pack up, the faster we can be out of here. I'll feel better when we're safe again."
Tiana nodded and went on getting everything packed up so they could load their car and go.
"Definitely them," Sam muttered, listening to them through the other half of the bug. |
"We need to talk to them before they book it out of town," Dean said. "We just need to get close enough without them going Victor Fries on us."
"Right." Sam frowned. "But they're not going to listen, not as spooked as they are." If he knew how to approach them without getting frozen, he'd try it, but as it was, he kind of liked being mobile and warm.
Dean considered it for a bit longer.
"I hate to say it, but we might have to let them skip town," he said. "Let 'em get away and relax some, and then try. It's the only way I can think of to not get a terminal case of frostbite." |
Sam nodded his assent of that for now. "We'll just have to keep an eye on them until they settle again," he said.
Dean nodded.
"Might as well call Bobby," he said. "Let him know." |
Sam nodded and called Bobby, letting him know what was going on and telling him they'd be unavailable for a few days while they kept up with the girls and tried to figure things out.
The girls were packed up and out of the house within a couple of hours. They were used to having to pick up and go, and they did it efficiently.
Lucky for the guys, Dean had thought to tag the car with a simple tracer from a cell phone GPS, so they could see where the girls ended up settling. Technology made things a bit easier sometimes, Dean had to admit. At least, when it wasn't being used against them. |
Sam tracked them along their path, though Dean kept a few hours behind them, just in case. When they finally did stop two states over, Sam sighed.
"New location, looks like they found a motel for the moment." |
"Good," Dean said. "Where'd they get off the highway?" He could make some fair guesses, but he wanted to be sure where they stopped.
"About a hundred miles up from here, they stopped in a really tiny town. I'm guessing it's just for the night." Sam kept his map up so he could show Dean when they got closer.
Dean nodded and kept driving. About two and a half hours later, he pulled off the highway.
"Where to now?" he asked. |
Sam directed him to the motel, looking at it for a few moments. Yup, looked just like a motel they would have picked. Shaking his head a bit, he directed Dean to park around back, out of sight so the girls wouldn't be suspicious, in case they had seen Dean's car.
Dean had just parked the Impala when his phone rang.
"Bobby?" he asked when he saw the display. "What's up?" If Bobby was calling, it was likely a job. |
"Where are you two?" Bobby asked, having stuck a red pin in a map in front of him.
