Elisa paused every once in a while to examine some new plant but otherwise just kept her eyes open as they walked.
After a few hours, when the dome was no longer in sight, Tony stopped and looked around. "Break time? Anyone need a break?" |
"Break sounds good," Clint said, still sounding distracted. Clara also nodded and stopped walking.
|
Elisa went over to examine a plant a few feet away, murmuring to herself as she examined it, occasionally touching a leaf.
Tony settled down with a little sigh, just taking everything in of the outside. |
Clara passed around water canteens, making sure the water inside was cold and fresh. Clint, on the other hand, disappeared into the trees for a few minutes. When he came back, he was grinning broadly and had a large bird perched on his arm.
"Look at this," he said. |
"Where in the world did you find that?" Elisa asked, her voice quiet and awed. "I've never seen a bird that big before."
Tony sat up and took notice too, although partially because it had talons. |
"Isn't she gorgeous?" Clint asked, definitely pleased. "I caught a rodent for her, so she stuck around."
|
"She is gorgeous," Elisa agreed. "We'll see how long she sticks around, then." She smiled a bit.
|
Clint grinned widely.
"None of the others are going to believe this," he said. "Even with a blessing, I wasn't expecting anything quite like this." |
"No one knows what to expect out here," Elisa said quietly. "It's not just dogs and deer out here, we've got so much more out here to potentially work with."
|
"I'm good with the bird for the moment," Clint said, gently smoothing some of the bird's feathers. "I'll look for something else later, once we've gone a bit farther."
|
Elisa shook her head and went to find a few edible plants for them to supplement their rations. Fortunately she could do that at least.
|
Clara went off to fill their canteens again. There was a stream nearby, she could feel it. Once she found it, she carefully made sure the water was pure and fresh and then filled the containers.
|
By the time she got back, Tony had started a fire for them, grinning.
"Just don't set me on fire," Elisa muttered as she started cooking. Tony just cackled. |
Clara blinked.
"How did you get that going so fast?" she asked, looking at the fire. |
Tony grinned and rubbed his hands together. Sparks flew from his hands, falling harmlessly into the flames.
"I'm even more awesome now." |
Clara couldn't help but grin a bit at that.
"Nice," she said. |
"Looks like we've got useful blessings between us," Tony said with a grin.
Elisa just rolled her eyes. "They wouldn't just leave us helpless," she reasoned, turning over the roots to cook more. |
"So we'll always have fire and fresh water," Clara said. "And... whatever Clint can do with his bird-whispering." She grinned a bit, teasing.
|
Elisa snorted at that and shook her head. "And food," she pointed out. "Although we can have fresh meat too if Clint can get things to go hunting for us."
|
"I... Maybe," Clint said, considering it for a moment. He looked at the bird, which spread her wings and took off. Getting up, Clint followed, going into the trees again.
|
Elisa grinned briefly and kept cooking.
"I volunteer you to be in charge of cooking," Tony said. "I'm fine with that." |
Clara grinned.
"She's good at it," she said. |
"So we should be good on food," Elisa said with a bit of a smile. "I think we'll be okay."
|
It took Clint a little while to come back, but when he did he came back carrying several rodents by the feet. They looked like rabbits, but a bit different; more like rabbits if they had been crossed with some sort of small cat.
"Found something," he said, holding up the catch. His bird friend circled overhead and settled in a tree. |
"Wow. Great job, both of you." Elisa grinned. "Those look kind of freaky but they should taste fine."
