"As far as I can tell, they're pretty much like rabbits," Clint said. "For the most part. They're built like rabbits, at least."
"Well, then, I'll treat them like rabbits." Elisa got one and started to clean it, leaving the parts she didn't want off to the side. "I'm sure you can feed some friends with these."
"You bet I can," Clint said, grinning. He went and picked through the bits Elisa was leaving off to the side. His eagle-hawk friend came down from the tree to land on his shoulder, interested in what he had.
Elisa chuckled quietly and kept preparing the rabbits, putting the meat on spits she had cleaned.
"At least we'll have tasty food," Tony said, making faces at what she was doing. |
"Yeah we will," Clara said, grinning. "Yay roasted meat." She stretched a bit and sat down near the fire. Although, not too near; just near enough to feel warm.
"Alright, have at it," Elisa told them a little while later. "Pick a skewer. These are done too." She pulled the roots away from the fire so they could have some.
Clara picked a meat skewer and a root skewer, and scooted back away from the fire. Clint picked one of each, as well, even as his eagle-hawk friend took some of the cast-off bits of rodent.
Tony took his own food and settled in to eat. Elisa also settled in, trying to relax for a while.
Clara was done quickly, and set her skewers aside. She looked up at the sky when the wind picked up some, and she breathed in deeply.
"Mmmm," she murmured. "Smells like water. I bet it's going to rain soon." |
"Great, rain," Elisa said sarcastically. "We should find some kind of shelter. I'm not all that fond of the idea of being soaked."
Clara nodded, even though she was still distracted by the idea of the rain.
"Let's find something, then," Clint said. "Or make something." |
Elisa nodded and started to look around. She didn't see any caves conveniently nearby, so she huffed and started climbing the trees around them, gently nudging and fixing branches to give them enough layers of cover that they'd stay dry.
"Can you see where the clouds are rolling in from?" Clara called up to her as Elisa climbed. "And how far off they are?"
"From the north-east, it looks like," Elisa called back. "Still a few miles off, moving slowly so far." She shifted a few more branches into another layer of roof for them.
"What kind of clouds?" Clara called. "Regular rainclouds, or are they starting to form thunderheads?"
"So far they look normal to me, I don't see any lightning or hear any thunder." Elisa shrugged, sliding back down the tree easily.
"That doesn't mean it won't start, though," Clara mused as she ducked under the tree cover Elisa had created.
"True," Elisa agreed, also moving under the cover. "But hopefully it won't, because if it gets windy I've done all I can do already."
Tony grumbled at the idea of a thunderstorm, making a face. |
"I'm not sure what help I'll be," Clara said. "But I'll do what I can."
Elisa nodded and hunkered in when the rain got closer, settling in close to the fire and the others to stay warm.
Tony stayed close to the fire as well, although he did watch Clara to make sure she was fine. |
Clara watched as the rain started to fall, fascinated. She held her hands out, trying to catch some of the rain.
"It is different," she marveled. "It's... wilder, somehow." |
"It's not triggered and not controlled," Elisa said quietly, watching and listening as the rain started to come down harder. Fortunately they stayed dry.
"It's more alive," Clara said. "Compared to this, the rain we get in the dome is... stale. Flat, somehow."
Elisa nodded. "I kind of understand what you mean," she said. "It's a bit different, with plants, but most of the plants inside have been cultivated and grown by us for so long that they're much more... tame, I guess."
"Everything is more unrestrained out here, it seems," Clara said. She sighed slightly. "I kind of like it."
