Dahlia got up the next morning decently early. She didn't have to go in to work today, so she had planned to clean the apartment. She'd have to see what Will was doing and if he was going to be in the way or not.
Will took the opportunity to sleep in a bit. It wasn't something he go to do often, between being a thief and then living with Anastasia, so he took advantage now. When he did get up, he took a quick shower and then went to see what Dahlia was doing.
Dahlia, by that point, had settled in to watch some TV, curled up on the couch with the TV on. She had a mirror in her hands, which she was frosting over into different designs.
The mirror caught Will's attention quickly. At first, he thought it was a Looking Glass, until he remembered that a mirror being a Looking Glass was impossible in Storybrooke. But the frost blossoming over the surface was still fascinating.
"Bloody hell," he said, "how're you doing that?" |
"What, this?" Dahlia grinned a little. "Magic, of course. My own brand of magic." She twirled her fingers over the glass, forming a tiny glass castle on the surface.
"Magic?" Will asked. "I've never seen magic like that before. Isn't it supposed to be smoke and such?"
"Most magic is," Dahlia agreed. "My magic is different. It's inherited, for one thing, given to the women of my family by a frost giant who used to live where our kingdom now resides. We left the frost giant to her cave and her life, and in return, she gave us the means to survive and flourish." She shrugged, though she was watching him carefully. "As such, my magic is not the same. It doesn't have the same origins, nor does it have the same powers or possibilities. I am somewhat limited."
Will blinked as he listened.
"I hope you know that sounds like utter bollocks," he said after a moment. "But I've learned not to question it when I hear things like that because it's most often true." |
"It's so crazy it's probably true?" Dahlia asked with a bit of a grin. "It's been a while since someone has questioned my truthfulness. It's... refreshing."
"It's crazy enough you can't possibly be making it up," Will said. "You learn things like that in Wonderland: the crazier it sounds, the more true it probably is. And magical ice-lady powers from a giant snowman makes you sound like you've gone 'round the twist a few times."
Dahlia snorted, dissolving the ice with a wave of her fingers. "Well, then, at least I don't have to convince you."
"It's like if I told you I was briefly a genie," Will offered, grinning. "Sounds absolutely bollocks, but just as true."
"Indeed." Dahlia shook her head. "How did that go for you?" She looked at him with some interest.
"Poorly," Will replied immediately. "Extremely so."
Dahlia snorted. "Now you know," she said, amused. "There's cereal for breakfast. I didn't feel up to making breakfast today."
Will shrugged.
"Cereal's fine," he said. "No complaints here." |
Dahlia nodded and waved a hand at the fridge. Fun little ice patterns formed on the front of it. Just because.
Will grinned a bit.
"That's still amazing to watch," he said, going over to examine the patterns on the fridge. |
Dahlia smiled. It was kind of nice to have her powers appreciated.
"This is easy," she said. "For me, anyway. Building something substantial out of ice without building materials is harder." |
"Still, it's impressive," Will said as he used a dishtowel to open the fridge. "I'm surprised. I thought most magic didn't work right in this world."
"It still doesn't. My magic feels dampened, sluggish almost." Dahlia shrugged. "I am not as powerful as I was."
Will blinked.
"I'd be right terrified to face you back in our world," he said. |
Dahlia chuckled. "Fortunately for you, I'm not in the habit of harming others," she said. "Possibly because I didn't see others very often."
"You could probably take over the whole bloody world if you wanted to," Will said. "That's impressive." He grinned a bit.
"Thank you, I think," Dahlia said, clearly amused. "Fortunately, I just want a quiet corner of the world that's plenty cold for me to work with."
