"Well, I hope you find one once this whole mess is cleared up," Will said. "And hopefully Anastasia and I can get back to Wonderland." He paused. "Huh, wonder if that hatter is still around..."
"I can ask and see if anyone has seen him," Dahlia offered. "I currently have a fairly good gossip ring to find these things out for me."
"That would be great," Will said. "Maybe Ana won't be as angry with me if I get us a ride home."
Dahlia chuckled and stretched a bit. "Well, I'll see what I can find out," she promised, waving a hand and vanishing all the ice for now.
"Thanks," Will said, both for the offer of help and for defrosting the fridge. Dahlia was turning out to be an interesting person, and Will wouldn't mind keeping her as a friend.
Dahlia just smiled and headed back to her room to get shoes on so she could go talk to the sisters about the Hatter.
Will hung out a while longer, until Dahlia was ready to leave.
"Thanks again for letting me stay the night," he said. "I should go find Anastasia and see about apologizing to her. She might listen now that she's had the night to cool off." |
"Of course. If she doesn't listen, you can always come back," Dahlia said. "I don't mind the company."
"We'll see," Will said. "She's the jealous type, so I'll work on getting on her good side again first. But thanks."
Dahlia nodded and let him out, locking up after herself and heading off to go find the sisters. She figured she'd check the studio first.
A few of the sisters were at the studio. Maria was there with Victoria, Corinne, and Holly, giving them a magic lesson in the warded practice room. Even though Maria, Anne, and Violet had adapted their magic to dancing, they had started learning the regular way. So all of the younger girls were sitting on the floor, working on the lesson. Maria looked over when she heard the door open.
"Hey, Dahlia," she said. "What brings you out this way today?" |
"I was wondering if I could enlist you all to help me with a minor chore," Dahlia said, glancing around at the sisters. "I'm looking for someone for a friend. The Hatter. Jefferson, I believe he goes by."
Maria looked thoughtful while the younger girls whispered amongst themselves.
"A hatter is a guy who makes hats?" Holly asked. "'Cause there's a girl in my class at school, she says her real dad makes hats." |
Dahlia focused on her. "Yeah, that's right," she said. "What girl? You know where she lives?"
"Not sure," Holly said. "I can ask at school tomorrow, though. Paige usually has perfect attendance, so I'm sure she'll be there."
Dahlia nodded. "That would be much appreciated, thank you." And problem potentially solved. This was why having a whole network was awesome.
Holly nodded.
"No problem," she said, grinning. She felt good that she was able to help. |
Dahlia smiled and picked a seat so that they could get on with their magic lesson, content to watch now that she had something figured out for Will.
Holly grinned and her and turned back to her lesson. She enjoyed learning magic. Maybe she would even work it into her dancing like her older sisters did.
Dahlia just relaxed there for the moment, although she did keep an eye on everyone out of habit.
After another half an hour or so, Maria called an end to the lesson for the day. The three younger girls looked tired, but they were all smiling as they gathered up their things.
Dahlia also grinned briefly as she watched them gather up their things. They had done well, overall.
Maria herded them out of the studio, and sat down with a bit of a sigh.
"At least they're doing well," she said, unknowingly echoing Dahlia's thoughts. |
"They are," Dahlia agreed. "They are improving, and nothing has gone too wrong." She smiled a bit. "I would count that a success."
"So would I," Maria said. She sighed a bit and stretched her legs. "They're all so young, though, especially Corinne and Holly, and it's harder to teach them without access to the library we used to have." She was quiet for a moment. "And Holly seems to have a talent for elemental magic, rather than normal magic."
