Violet paused in her dancing and grinned when she saw the icicles.
"That's kind of neat," she said. |
"Thanks." Dahlia smiled. "They won't last long, not with the temperature outside. It's more difficult here than it was before, but not impossible."
"Still, it's impressive," Violet said. She grinned a bit. "Though I'm betting everyone's a bit out of practice."
"I'm sure." Dahlia shook her head. "I don't intend to be out of practice for long."
"I need to see how many dances I remember from before," Violet mused. "And what they do. I don't want to dance one by accident and have a spell go off."
Dahlia snorted and shook her head. "I suspect there may be a few instances of that anyway," she said.
"No kidding," Violet replied, snickering. "I used to have a book, once, that had all of my spell-dances written down. We each had our own. I don't know what happened to it."
"It's hard to say," Dahlia said. "You may find it, or it may have vanished. Or it may be in Gold's shop." Dahlia shrugged.
"I'm not sure I like the sound of that," Violet said. "I mean, he uses a cane, I doubt he could even do a spell-dance, but still. I don't like the idea of him having my book."
"you can always ask, but that would be a private transaction if he does have it," Dahlia said with a shrug. "But I would recommend looking around first."
"Yeah," Violet said, nodding. She went quiet for a few moments. "So now what? Are we just stuck here in town? Are we ever going to get to go home?"
"That I do not know," Dahlia admitted. "I hope we can go home, but I do not know if we can."
"I hope we can, too," Violet said softly. "This place... it's not the same. It's comfortable enough, but it isn't home."
"I know." Dahlia smiled a bit. "Besides, here we're... different. We're not what we once were. It's not bad, but... I do miss it."
Violet laughed a bit.
"Yeah, here we don't have to sneak out at night to go dancing," she said, grinning. |
Dahlia grinned briefly. "Indeed," she said. "I do wonder, though, how well my magic will fare. My castle was surrounded by snow all year, so my... creations tended to last better."
"Creations?" Violet asked, curious. "Like what?" She had to admit, she was curious about Dahlia; she didn't know much about her friend.
"I built part of my castle," she said with a shrug. "I was able to make snowmen, sort of, that were alive enough to do my bidding and patrol outside my castle."
"Wow," Violet said. "That's really impressive." She quirked a bit of a grin as she carefully untied the ribbons of her shoes. "Spell-dancing isn't nearly so powerful as that."
"Nothing wrong with that," Dahlia said. "Your magic sounds like it has its own uses, though."
"Ballet isn't as useful as some other dances," Violet admitted. "There's only so much you can get done with ballet. I do like step-dancing, though, that can create a lot of magic."
"I don't dance," Dahlia said. "So I don't know what the different types of dancing are. I know ballet and waltz. That's about it."
Violet grinned.
"Maybe one of these days I can convince some of the others to brush up on riverdancing with me," she said. "It's fun, and I'm betting you'd enjoy watching it." |
Dahlia looked confused but nodded anyway.
Violet gently wrapped the ribbons around her pointe shoes and put them into her bag.
"I'm sure I can find a video or something of riverdancing," she said. "Show you what it looks like." |
