Dahlia nodded. "That is one nice thing about this place," she said. "Information is so much more easily available."
"Oh I know," Violet agreed, nodding. "It's wonderful not having to spend hours in a library that may or may not have what you need to find."
Dahlia nodded. "Yeah." She smiled a bit. "So, are you pleased to be moving in with the rest of your family?"
"I kind of am," Violet said, nodding. "It'll be nice, living together again and actually knowing who all the others are." She grinned a bit. "Most of us were all in the dance company without even realizing we were related. Now we know."
Dahlia nodded. "I work in one of the shops, doing inventory. I'm almost never up front." She smiled faintly. "It will be interesting to see how people react now."
"No kidding," Violet said. "I don't think my daily wanderings take me past anyone I really know, so I should be alright, but I don't know about any of my sisters."
"I doubt anyone will give any of you problems," Dahlia said. "But if they do, I'm always happy to scare a few people."
"No, it's alright," Violet said. "There are twelve of us, we can handle things. But thanks for the offer."
Dahlia nodded and relaxed where she was for the moment.
Later on that evening, Violet was less one pair of shoes and more eleven sisters in her apartment building. They had all been put on the same floor, with the youngest girls pairing up with an older sister. Violet found herself up on the roof of the building, enjoying the wind off the bay and just watching the horizon for a while.
Hook, meanwhile, was tending to his ship. He stepped off onto the dock to go get a few things so he'd be better prepared. He did avoid the townspeople to a degree.
Violet caught the motion out of the corner of her eye and turned to look. The ship had only been there for a day or so; it had appeared when the curse broke. So, naturally, Violet was interested. She went over to the edge of the rooftop to see what was going on.
Hook started loading things onto his ship, like food. And some more rope. Because things like that were important.
Curious, Violet climbed down the fire escape to get a closer look. She didn't go too close, though; she didn't want to intrude.
Hook stood for a few moments once he was done, watching the town. Most people were asleep, so it was blessedly quiet. He sat on a barrel to relax for a little while.
Violet jumped the last few feet from the bottom of the fire escape, landing gracefully on the ground and moving a bit closer. She really was curious about the ship, and the dock was right there...
Hook looked over at her when she approached, watching her for a moment. Then he cracked a grin that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Something I can help you with?" |
Violet jumped a bit.
"Sorry, I was just..." She flailed for a moment for an answer. "I've never seen a ship like this before." |
"Aren't many ships like her left," Hook said, relaxing a bit. He could tell he'd caught her off-guard.
"It's amazing," Violet replied. "Nothing like this has ever stopped here before, and growing up, I was a little... land-locked. Nothing around big enough for ships."
Hook nodded. "I've met a few people who have said something similar," he said, watching her for the moment.
"What, that they were landlocked?" Violet asked before she could stop herself. She blinked. "Sorry. I don't mean to be a smartass."
Hook chuckled. "That too," he agreed easily. "Although few people are willing to outright say that. But most people don't think quite so highly of my ship once they know what she is, really."
Violet raised an eyebrow.
"Alright, I'll bite," she said. "What do you mean?" |
"I'll give you a hint, since you're a poor landlocked civilian," Hook said with a bit of a grin. "It's something most citizens of the law don't like to see, especially not at sea."
