"Yeah." Dahlia nodded. "It just differs in the execution." Which made sense, to her.
Violet nodded, grinning.
"Yay impromptu magic lesson," she said. |
Dahlia snickered at that. "Yeah, really." She shook her head a bit, flexing her fingers and letting frost form on her fingernails.
Violet noticed and watched, eyes bright with curiosity.
"That's really cool," she said. She blinked and paused. "Pun totally not intended, I swear." |
Dahlia chuckled. "It's fun, to see how long I can make it last."
"That's awesome," Violet said, grinning.
Dahlia chuckled at her enthusiasm but didn't do anything else for the moment. She'd play more later.
Finally, the practice was over for all of them, and the sisters all gathered their things.
"I'm going to head to the diner for some dinner," Violet said. "Want to come with me?" |
"Sure," Dahlia agreed after a moment, getting to her feet and stretching. "Let's go."
Violet grinned and stashed her shoes in her bag, and then led the way outside. Her other sisters all filtered back towards the apartment building, but Violet headed for the diner.
Dahlia followed Violet. Food sounded good right then. She let Violet pick the seat and settled in with her.
"So, you all settled into the new building okay?" |
"Yeah, fine," Violet said as she sat down. "Most of the younger girls paired up with an older one, but I got lucky, I still have my apartment all to myself."
Dahlia grinned. "Nice, isn't it?" she said. "Having your own space, being able to just relax."
"It is," Violet agreed. She grinned. "You should come over sometime, spend the night."
"Maybe I will," Dahlia said quietly. She smiled a bit. "Could be interesting."
"It'll be fun," Violet said. "I'll even see about grabbing some cookies or something from Gillian. She bakes like the world's about to end."
Dahlia laughed quietly. "I can cook," she said. "Make dinner for us, if you want. I mean, I'm not great at it, but I cooked for myself."
"I can cook enough not to starve," Violet said. "Between the two of us, I'm sure we can manage something."
"Sounds good to me." Dahlia grinned and motioned for Violet to order first when Red came over to get their orders.
Violet quickly gave Red her order (soup and a sandwich, although she really kind of wanted a burger), and settled back in her seat with her water.
Dahlia just got the soup and a side of fries before she settled in as well. She was fine with the quiet.
At that precise moment, the door of the diner opened and Gold walked in. He didn't draw any more attention to himself than he normally did, and he took an empty table off in one corner. He ignored the feeling of everyone watching him as he leaned his cane against the table.
Dahlia noticed because she was facing the door, and her eyebrows shot up. What was he doing in the diner? But she didn't get up or say anything, just keeping an eye on him.
Granny herself ended up being the one to go take Gold's order, because Red refused to go near him.
"What brings you out here, Mr. Gold?" she asked. "I fail to see how that's any of your business," Gold replied evenly. |
Granny looked at him for a moment before she shrugged. "Alright then. What can I get you?" But her voice was too even.
Dahlia's eyes narrowed a bit at that. Rude and abrasive, sounded about right for the Dark One. |
