"That might be a bit tense right now, considering they're not the best at PR on their good days," Kerry pointed out. "As much as he hates it, Stark is really the best at PR, him and Steve. I'll go see about finding a mission for those two, or something. Something to get them out of the tower for a little while."
"Go for it," Avery said. "I can hold down the fort here if you need to head to HQ or anything." Besides, it would give her a chance to really analyze what she could sense of Loki's magic. It was really kind of fascinating.
"I'm checking quickly here but if nothing pops up at me I'll go to HQ," Kerry said, already back to looking at her laptop.
"Alright," Avery said. "Either way, I'm planning on being here for the rest of the day, so you can do what you need to."
"Great, thanks." Kerry browsed through the missions, looking for something suitable for Widow and Hawkeye. Even if it was a little on the easy side and would only take a day or two.
Getting up, Avery set some more tea to brew. It seemed like that kind of day. She also moved her paperwork out of the way on the table, in anticipation of Clint and Bruce coming in to cook.
Kerry grumbled to herself until she found a decent enough mission to send those two on and signed all three of them up for it. Since they needed a handler and she wasn't about to send them out unsupervised.
"There, done." |
"Good," Avery said. "What did you find? Anything interesting?"
"Op in Canada, of all places, just a surveillance and basic investigation of a warehouse with suspicious activity," Kerry said. "Shouldn't be too difficult, but it'll give them a chance to get away. And if the warehouse happens to be occupied by AIM, well, then they get a chance to blow some steam too."
"It's as good as anything," Avery said, nodding. "You going to go with them?" Because she knew that Clint and Natasha sometimes needed handling, even if they didn't particularly want to admit it.
"Yeah. I can't just send them off on their own, Coulson would kill me. Besides, the op is for two and a handler, so I'll just sit back and monitor them." Kerry shrugged. "They don't need to be told how to do their jobs."
"Well, I can hold down the fort here," Avery said, nodding. "It shouldn't be too hard, and the Bus is due back in a few days anyways, so I'll have some backup when they get back."
"Good." Kerry sent off the mission info to Natasha and Clint both. "We're leaving in the morning, unless one of them decides to come and put up a huge fuss about this. Hopefully not but you never know."
"Clint's probably chomping at the bit to get out of here for a while," Avery said. "And Natasha probably won't complain, if it gets Clint out of here."
"That's what I'm hoping for. They should be getting the information right about now." Kerry shrugged and got up to get herself more tea.
"Alright," Avery said. She stretched a bit. "I can look after things well enough here, so you do what you need to with them."
"I'll let you know." Kerry sat back at the table with her tea, waiting for either one of them to come to her or for enough time to pass to go talk to them about it.
Natasha was the first one to appear.
"An op?" she asked quietly, voice still a smidge too even. |
"Just to get some fresh air," Kerry said, watching her. Natasha was usually harder to convince than Clint. "Get the three of us out of the tower for a bit. Don't worry, I won't be interfering, they just needed my name on the paperwork."
Natasha studied her for a moment, and then nodded once.
"I'll make sure Clint is ready to go," she said. |
Kerry nodded. "Seven tomorrow morning," she said. "Let me know if you need anything else from me."
Natasha nodded and left again. It was probably best to keep an eye on Clint until they left for the op.
Kerry grinned to herself at her little victory and finished up her preparations for the op before ordering dinner in for them. Pizza was good, everyone could get some as they liked, and it would still be good in several hours. Win win.
Avery was actually kind of grateful for the pizza. It meant that she wasn't in the way of anyone cooking, and she could finish her work mostly in peace. Once she was done, though, she stood up.
"I think I'm going to head back to SHIELD for a while and hit up the gym or the range," she said to the room in general. "I have my phone, if anything comes up." |
Kerry nodded without looking up from her own preparations. "Have fun," she said absently.
Steve nodded as well to show that he'd heard, since he'd settled in the living room in case anyone needed to talk. In a little while though he'd go take a pizza down to Tony and Bruce. |
