Loki saying he was bored was sort of a frightening thing, Avery decided. Nothing was more unpredictable than a bored trickster.
"They're less conspicuous there," she murmured after a moment. "Less likely for anyone to see them." |
"Quite true." Loki kept his hand there. "What else needs to be done?"
"I was trying to lance, disinfect, and bandage the blisters," Avery said, making sure not to move. "And then let them heal on their own."
Loki removed his hand slowly, looking at the blisters. "Hmm. I see. It should be easier now. Or at least less painful."
Avery gingerly felt the burns. Indeed, they felt less painful, underneath the chilled skin.
"Thank you," she said, glancing at him. Steeling herself, she lanced the first blister. It still wasn't pleasant. |
Loki stayed there the whole time, handing her things as she needed them and cooling off her skin again for her.
Finally, Avery managed to disinfect and bandage the burns, sighing softly once she was done.
"Thanks," she said again as she threw away the tissues she'd used to clean everything. |
Loki nodded. "I believe the rest of the team has settled in to watch a movie," he said, tilting his head. "You should be able to rest for the remainder of the evening."
"Resting sounds nice," Avery admitted. She glanced at him. "And what do you plan to do?"
"Return to my room before my brother notices anything is amiss," Loki said with a little shrug.
"He's fairly observant, he might have noticed already," Avery pointed out as she put the medical supplies away. Her burns felt better now that they were bandaged and covered with Neosporin.
"He may have." Loki shrugged. "But there is not much else he can do to me here. I am already stuck here with most of my magic bound."
"From what I understand, it's supposed to be more than 'most,'" Avery said cautiously. "What went wrong?"
"Odin does not know the extent of my power, so he bound what he knew of," Loki said. "No need for you to worry, however. I do not have enough magic to cause any real harm."
Avery just raised an eyebrow. She knew very well that he could cause harm with next to nothing, if he put his mind to it.
"I have no inclination currently to cause harm to anyone," Loki said. "Except perhaps Odin, but as he is not on this realm, you needn't worry."
"I still have to keep an eye on you," Avery said. She prodded her bandage one more time and then headed out to the living room.
Loki let her go and made his way back to his room. Best not to push his luck too far. Besides, it had been nice to chat for a little while with someone who didn't look at him with such suspicion. Or pity.
Avery settled down in an empty spot on the couch and carefully reached for a slice of pizza. Absently, she took a head count and blinked when she saw FitzSimmons amongst the group. She hadn't realized they had arrived.
Kerry caught her looking at the two scientists and snorted quietly. Yeah, they had extra company. It was kind of fun, really.
"When did they get here?" Avery murmured to her partner. "They couldn't have been here when we got back."
"No, they came in while you were in the bathroom," Kerry murmured. "Looks like they're staying the night. At least they're not bouncing anymore."
"Where's Coulson?" Avery asked, glancing around. "And Ward?" It wasn't like them to just leave FitzSimmons unattended (for all intents and purposes.)
"Coulson is in the kitchen getting something, and Ward and Mae skipped out on the slumber party." Kerry shrugged.
"Ward and Mae?" Avery asked, raising an eyebrow. "I hope he knows that's probably not the best idea. I can't picture Mae as someone who does casual flings."
