"Good plan," Marie said, stepping back from the side of the ledge and onto the ledge proper. "Even better, let's head back for the Tardis, I've had my fill of this weird planet."
"Good call," Jack agreed, following her. Although he had the sinking feeling this would be one of those things the Doctor would insist on investigating.
That sinking feeling was right.
"There you two are," the Doctor said when they got back to the Tardis. "What took you? Got a bit side-tracked with one another?" He grinned a bit, teasing. |
Jack rolled his eyes. "More like with the creatures down there," he said, pointing below. "It was not so fun."
"You found something down there?" the Doctor asked, eyes bright now. "What was it, what did you find?"
"Something hungry and not friendly," Jack told him, shaking his head. "With lots of tentacles."
"Tentacles, that's new," the Doctor said, going over to the side to lean over and try to get a look down to the bottom. "Did you see it? What did it look like?"
"No, we did not see it," Jack said, grabbing the back of his jacket and pulling him back. "All I know is tentacles were coming after us."
"Well, how are we supposed to know what it is if nobody saw it?" the Doctor asked. "We're gonna have to go down there and have a look."
"Doctor, this thing was trying to grab us," Jack said, shaking his head. "It's going to try to eat you."
"They," Jess corrected him faintly, looking down from the edge of the platform. "There's more than one. Look, you can see the movement down there, the occasional glint of eyes." |
"All the more reason, then," the Doctor said, pulling his sonic out of his jacket pocket. "We should find out what it is they want, and then send them on their way, if we can. I'm sure they're why the inhabitants here are so scared."
Jack groaned. "Fine," he agreed. "Fine! Don't come crying to me when you get eaten." But he didn't try to stop the Doctor further, instead staying close behind him.
"It'll be fine," the Doctor replied. He glanced at Jack and smirked. "Stay with the Tardis if you're that worried."
"No way, you're the only one that can pilot that thing, I'm not leaving you," Jack said staunchly.
Jess huffed a sigh. "Guess I'm tagging along too," she muttered. |
"Wait, we're not going back down there?" Marie yelped as she saw them head back towards the edge of the platform. "We just escaped from that!"
"The Doctor has a bit of a deathwish," Jack told her dryly. "And he can't leave anything well enough alone."
"Oy, enough out of you," the Doctor said, turning around and giving Jack a bit of a Look. "You're no better."
Jack grinned unrepentantly. "I don't hear you trying to challenge that, though," he said.
Jess peered cautiously downwards, trying to look for the creatures. |
The Doctor rolled his eyes and headed down the ladder, expression bright with curiosity. He was cautious, though, and held his sonic ready, just in case.
Jess followed him down, Jack after her. Jess peered around cautiously, sticking close to the Doctor as they finally reached the ground.
Jack was looking around as well, alert now and staying close to Marie. |
