Daemon shrugged. "They try," he said. "They don't succeed." He knew it did happen to Lucivar too, sometimes, but not as often. And, honestly, he was glad Heather wasn't like that.
"But not Heather?" Lucivar prodded, grinning a bit.
"Heather hasn't tried," Daemon pointed out. "She does not, as you say, throw herself at me." He snorted. "Much like Lily, she has not shown any interest in that."
"Kaelas sleeps in her bed, doesn't he?" Lucivar asked, grinning a bit.
"Every night," Daemon agreed. "Takes up more than half, I'd say." He shook his head at the giant cat. "He's not so laid back as Dejaal, either."
Lucivar snickered.
"Poor brother," he said, "so you wouldn't have a chance anyways even if you wanted one." |
"If it ever became an issue, we'd work something out," Daemon said loftily rather than actually replying. But basically, Lucivar was right: he didn't have much of a chance, although at this point he still wasn't sure if he wanted things to go that way or not.
Lucivar snorted and didn't reply. He knew an evasion when he saw one.
Daemon got up and got the food when it arrived, tipping the man before bringing it all back to the table.
"With any luck, tomorrow will go well without any major hiccups," he murmured. |
"Don't jinx it," Lucivar replied as he got up to get some dinner. "You know what happened last time."
"Don't even remind me," Daemon said with a grimace. "Last year was a waste."
"Yeah it was," Lucivar agreed. "It was just short of a disaster."
"Yes it was. If I have to punch anyone this year I'm giving things five years to change." Daemon scowled a little.
"I'll be right there with you on that one," Lucivar said, nodding. He sat down on the bed again and settled in. "We'll see how tomorrow goes."
"Indeed." Daemon finished his dinner and went over to his bed, stretching out. "You going to shower tonight or in the morning?"
"Tonight," Lucivar replied. "Unless you wanted to." He really didn't mind either way, and he suspected Daemon didn't mind, either.
Daemon waved a lazy hand. "I'll shower in the morning," he said, taking his boots off and settling down for the night.
"Alright," Lucivar replied. That was fine with him. He settled in for the night as well, stretching out on the bed again.
By mid-morning the next day, Daemon was rather bored. Nothing had happened. In a way, that was good; he hadn't had to punch anyone. But he also wasn't seeing anyone promising yet for Heather, which was annoying.
Lucivar had had to turn down a couple of entirely unsuitable prospects, but otherwise his day wasn't going much better. At lunch, he met up with his brother again.
"Not as bad as last year," he said. "But not promising, either." |
"Indeed." Daemon's lips were in a hard, displeased line. Heather needed very particular people, and so far, he wasn't even seeing anyone close. "It is... discouraging."
"No kidding," Lucivar said. He knew exactly how Daemon felt.
Elsewhere, Clint followed Tony into the main room. They showed up a bit late, since there were a few last-minute clearances Clint had needed to wheedle out of Phil, but they were there. And, even better, Phil had ended up giving Clint a few promising names to check out while they were there. |
Tony looked around, because of course he had the names that Clint did, and grinned.
"Wanna bet that's one of them?" he asked, nodding to the guy with wings sitting at a table. Also sitting at the table was someone who also looked like he could have been on the list, although he wasn't sure, since two of the names hadn't come up with pictures when he'd had Jarvis search. |
"Coulson did say they'd be obvious," Clint said, shrugging. "Let's go find out." He smirked. "After you."
Tony smirked and sauntered over to the two.
"So, I hear you're the gentlemen to talk to," he said, looking at the two. Daemon raised an eyebrow at the pair. |
