"No. There are 16 different sects within the White Fang. Four per nation. Each of the four work as one unit until the time calls for them to split to handle different tasks. During the time when they are working together, the most senior or most powerful of the leaders takes on the main role, while the other three act as either advisors, or they leave to take care of others... jobs. The issue within each sect is that conflicting view points do arise when working together but those that start trouble find themselves beaten, brainwashed further, or dead."
"Brainwashed?"
"Those that disobey... some have been tortured, those they felt would serve the cause no matter the cost. They'd torture them until their minds were broken and they became the most obedient 'slave' possible." She almost spat the word slave out, as that is what they made them. "The few that I saw, they had no will of their own. They cared almost nothing for their own well being, and had to be commanded to do everything. They literally became beasts. However, they were trained to act properly among their comrades as to not raise suspicion. I only know of these things because of my... connection with Leonus."
She sighed, "I was being raised by him to take over his position if he ever was to fall. I was his second-in-command. That part was hidden from everyone I know, even those within the White Fang. He knew I was hesitant and kept another around to be the acting second, since I was showing myself to be unwilling to harm humans. He was hoping to break me. He felt my semblance would make me a force to be reckoned with against his enemies."" |
Ozpin listened intently, knowing that he was getting a ton of information from Rachel and was glad that she had come instead of trying to sneak out on her own. "That explains why my acquaintances were unable to 'cure' them, for lack of a better word," he spoke with a scowl on his face. After that, he listened to what Raven/Rachel said about being Leonus's second-in-command.
"If you don't mind me asking, were there any...benefits of being chosen as an apprentice to a leader, a second-in-command?" He asked, wanting to find out if there was anyway the hierarchy within the White Fang. "I assume that it wasn't given to you, if possible, since it was being hidden." |
"Benefits is a vague meaning to me... Please, Is there a specific thing you a questioning? I was given the spot after I got into an altercation when someone, my semblance broke through and I beat a fellow faunus to near death. He stopped it, and took me under his wing. He saw what my semblance can do, and wanted to use it. He felt I could lead as well, I believe at least."
"Would you be allowed to get away with disobeying orders if you so wished, or something that other members would get beaten or punished for?" Ozpin asked, clarifying what he was trying to ask Raven.
"I was able to get away with disobeying. Barely mind you, but he knew that I clung to the old ways of the White Fang. I didn't see Humans as enemies and he did what he could to convince me of that fact. Just before I left, He almost started to change my way of thinking. He started to make arguments that sounded almost plausible, and a part of me wanting to believe him. Despite how ruthless he could be, he was the closest thing to a father I had."
"Arguments that were plausible?" Ozpin asked, curious as to what she meant by that. "If I may, can you give me some examples of what you meant by that?"
"It was only after I left that I learned more of it. But he tried to convince me, and started to with news stories of Faunus being hurt and or killed because of their race. I was naive and didn't realize they were biased stories to stir by Faunus run sources that used misinformation to try and recruit those stupid enough to believe them into the White Fang. After I left, I dug into them more just before I went through the test to join the school. Most of the stories were made up, or were twisted to remove any mention of the Faunus being blatent White Fang members who were causing trouble and got arrested or killed due to their actions." She gave the easiest example she could think of. "The sources he used have been closed down for almost a year, but I am sure have been replace by others."
Ozpin made a note for that, another scowl forming on his face after hearing such news. Then again, he wasn't totally surprised at the admission. "I see. Anything else that they do to try and recruit new members or is there some type of recruitment process?" he asked, extremely curious and was trying to fish as much information as he could get. And if they could get news stories and make it seem as if humans were in the wrong...did that mean that there were some hidden White Fang members in the news media? He made a mental note to ask Qrow to check into that the next time he contacted him.
"They send plain cloths faunus to go out and look for recruits, quietly placing flyers to those that meet the criteria. It varies depending on the situation, but they always find those that are lost, alone, or are looking for a 'better life'."
"Thank you for telling me all of this Ms. Rosewood," Opzin said with a soft smile on his face. "And I wish that humans as a whole could see that what they're doing by segregating the Faunus in general, and inadvertently aiding the White Fang into gaining members. Now then, may I ask something of you? You are completely free to say no and if you do, I won't bring it up again unless you do so," Ozpin asked, completely serious.
"Ask away. You are accommodating my request, I am compelled to show you that respect."
"Thank you. As I said, you are completely free to say no, especially since she is your friend. I have a feeling that Miss Belladonna was once part of the White Fang like you and would like to ask questions about the White Fang, to see if she has any additional information"
Raven took a deep breath and nodded, "If you'd like to, I do not mind her being here. She is like a sister to me." She admitted that, all but confirming his train of thought. "and please... I may of been born as Rachel Rosewood... but I took a new name, and I would rather stick with it. Raven Swiftclaw isn't apart of the White Fang."
"Understood Ms. Swiftclaw. And I would like to call her in, but I did not know that she was like a sister to you," he responded. "Although I did suspect," he admitted before sending a call to Blake's scroll.
"I'm sure we can both confirm statements from each other." Raven stated before she went silent to wait for Blake. She wasn't sure if there was anything else he was going to ask while they waited but wasn't going to be rude and speak for no reason.
"Headmaster?" Blake asked, surprised that Ozpin of all people was calling her. Her first thought was that she was in trouble somehow...but didn't know why.
"Ah yes, Ms. Belladonna. Would you please come to my office as soon as possible, I have some matters that I must discuss with you." He said, not mentioning or hinting about Raven in the slightest.
"I didn't do anything wrong sir, did I?" Blake asked, her cat-like curiosity in full swing.
"I would prefer to discuss this in person, But do not worry you are not in trouble."
"Alright, I'll be there shortly then," Blake said. Not only was she finished with classes for the day, she also knew that her girlfriend would be going to the gym right after classes and wouldn't be back for the night. Though she wasn't sure what Ruby and Weiss were up to.
Raven waited for Ozpin to finish, before speaking. "I must warn you, She might withdraw slightly when confronted." She used confronted loosely, not meaning it in the negative. "With me here, she might open up more and be willing to speak."
"Thank you for letting me know," Ozpin said before the door opened and Blake walked inside, noticing the look of surprise in Blake's eyes when she saw Raven there as well.
"You look shocked." Raven laughed softly, "Professor Ozpin and I have been talking for almost an hour now." She smiled to hopefully calm Blake down.
