Hook blinked, looking between the pearls and her. "For me? Are you sure?" He didn't take them yet, still looking surprised.
"I haven't heard anything definitive," the nun said, frowning at him. "Just some nonsense about monkeys."

Lydia nodded, with a bit of a shrug. It wasn't as if she couldn't get more of them whenever she felt like, and besides, the black pearls just seemed right for him.
Jefferson frowned.
"Monkeys?" he repeated. Something about that niggled in the back of his head, but he had no idea why it seemed vaguely familiar.

Hook blinked, still looking rather gobsmacked.
"Well... thank you, love." He took the pearls, looking at them for a few moments.
"That's what I've heard," the nun said, shooing him out of her way again. "You could go sit down, you know."
Mai made a panicked noise at that, gripping his shirt tighter.

Lydia just smiled and settled back in the seat a bit, gathering up the other gems and shoving them into her pockets.
Jefferson didn't even need Mai's reaction to shake his head.
"No, I think it's best if I stay here," he said. "Though if there's an extra chair for my daughter?"

Hook tucked the pearls away in his coat and settled back to wait for things to quiet down outside so they could get out.
The nun nodded and pointed Grace over to a chair.
It took a few more hours before she was done with Mai, and then at least in part because there were other people who needed help, and not enough nurse-nuns to go around. But Mai was at least patched up.

Lydia sat in silence with him for a little while before she finally couldn't let it stretch any longer.
"You know," she finally said, "there is surprisingly little literature out there about the infamous Captain Hook. I couldn't find anything outside of the little bit in the different versions of the Peter Pan story."
Jefferson stayed with Mai the entire time, though he kept an eye on Grace as well. Even though Mai was patched back up, it was still too dangerous to try to make it back to his manor.

Hook grinned at that. "Maybe I like it that way," he said, leaning back in a comfortable sprawl. "No literature for people to use against me."
Grace came over to check on both of them, handing over a water bottle to Jefferson. "Is she okay?" she asked, keeping her voice low. Mai wasn't asleep, but she wasn't paying much attention to the world, either.

"Oh?" Lydia asked, absently collecting the stones that were dropping into her lap. "I would think you'd want at least something accurate out there." She grinned teasingly. "A portrait, maybe."
"She should be," Jefferson replied quietly, taking the water bottle. "Once things calm down a little more, we'll take her home." He put an arm around Grace's shoulders. "How are you holding up, little bug?"

"Never been good at sitting still long enough," Hook said, smirking at her. "Never had anyone interested, either."
Grace sighed, leaning against him. "I'm okay," she said after a moment. "But that was... bad."

"In this world, it's a lot easier," she said. "Taking pictures is very fast, now."
"That it was," Jefferson replied, hugging her. "You were very brave, Grace."

"Still haven't had anyone ask," Hook said with a shrug. Clearly this was not something that bothered him.
Grace turned into him, hugging him back tightly, just calming down a bit. She was mostly calm already anyway, but now at least she felt safe, too.

Jefferson pulled Grace into his lap, holding her tight.
"I'm very proud of you, bug," he murmured. "You handled things very well today."
Lydia grinned.
"I'm surprised," she said. "I would have thought people would be tripping over themselves to get pictures of you."

Hook laughed quietly. "No one yet," he told her with a grin. "You'll be the first, if you ask."

"As soon as things calm down," Jefferson replied, just holding her. "Once we can get Mai home safely."
Lydia grinned a bit.
"I might just take you up on that, when we get out of here," she said.

Jefferson settled there for a while, just keeping an eye on Grace and Mai. He figured they would be able to leave soon, as soon as he knew he'd be able to get Mai back to the manor.
Lydia blinked and blushed a little at that.

It didn't take much longer for the nun to come back over to them.
"You can take her home now," she told Jefferson. "But keep her off her feet as much as possible, alright? And if she needs something stronger than ibuprofen for the pain, let me know."
Hook paused and looked up when he heard movement, and he got up to go investigate.
"Well, love, looks like we might be getting out of here sooner rather than later."

"We'll let you know," he said. "Thank you for all of your help."
"Really?" Lydia asked, stuffing the newest gems into her pockets and gathering the flowers. She got up out of the chair, her pockets clattering softly from all of the gems.

The nun nodded and bustled away to go deal with other people.
Mai pushed herself upright slowly, breathing carefully. "Walking is going to suck," she muttered to herself.
Hook nodded, moving over to where he heard the shifting coming from.
"Looks like the Charmings are digging us out."

"You're not walking," Jefferson said firmly, standing up. Before she could do anything else, he picked her up as gently as he had before. "Comfy?"
"Snow and the Prince?" Lydia asked, blinking. "Wow, I feel special."

Hook snickered. "And some of the dwarves, I believe." He moved back over to her. "We'll be out of here soon."

"You just sit tight and let me get you home," Jefferson replied. He nodded to Grace. "Come on, little bug, time to head home."
"That explains it," Lydia said, nodding. "Dwarf axes." She gathered up the newest gems and flowers as she spoke.

Hook nodded, shifting a bit to shield her from any debris.

Jefferson grinned a bit and headed back to the manor. The roads were a bit clearer, now, although they were still torn up badly, and it took a little while to get back home. Once they got there, he took her inside and set her gently on the couch.
Lydia jumped a little when some of the rubbed suddenly shifted, and lift started to filter in from outside.

"Is everyone okay?" Charming called, peering inside.
"We're fine," Hook called back.
