Taylor settled in close to him, just relaxing and reassuring herself that he was alright and trying not to think about the fact that she was so in over her head and didn't care.
Bucky watched her go, baffled. He turned to see if Steve had seen what had just happened and sighed when he saw his friend already distracted. Then he trudged off to clean up and change. |
Steve stayed there for a while, just relaxing and enjoying, before he pulled back a little to smile at her.
"Coffee?" he asked. |
"Sure," Taylor said, smiling back a little. Then she wrinkled her nose a bit. "Though maybe you should go change into something clean, first."
Steve grinned, abashed, and pulled back. "Alright, I'll go wash up real quick. Meet you at our normal table?" Because of course they had a normal table, by now.
"Of course," Taylor said, smiling. "Meet you there."
Steve nodded and jogged back to his quarters to change and wash up, so he'd be more presentable.
Alissa, meanwhile, had gone and hid in the room she and Taylor shared. |
Taylor headed to their room to see if Alissa was alright.
"Liss?" she asked, opening the door. "What's wrong?" |
"Bucky came back," Alissa said, her head down in her hands. "God, Tay, he came back. He didn't fall. Can you imagine what I've just done? What I've changed?"
"You saved him," Taylor said, sitting down next to her and putting an arm around her. "That's all you need to think about, you saved his life."
"We have no idea what's going to happen to him now," Alissa pointed out, though she leaned into Taylor gratefully. "We don't know that I did him any favors, really."
"But for now, he's back," Taylor said. She grinned. "Means you can still go on that date you let him plan for after the mission."
"Yeah," Alissa said. "Yeah I guess so. Okay, not thinking about the future, need to get my head back in now." She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
Taylor rubbed her shoulder a bit.
"It'll be okay," she said. |
"Yeah. It'll be okay." Alissa swallowed before she smiled, a little shaky still. "I'll be okay, I might just go for a little walk, clear my head a bit."
"You sure?" Taylor asked. "I can stay with you, if you want the company."
"I'm sure," Alissa said. "Go on, go see Steve. I'll just go somewhere quiet."
"Promise me you'll show up at dinner, then," Taylor pressed. She didn't want Alissa to stay by herself all night.
"I promise, I'll be there for dinner," Alissa agreed. "I don't think I'd be allowed to miss even if I tried."
"Alright," Taylor said. She grinned. "I'm sending someone to get you if you don't show up, and I can't guarantee who it'll be."
Alissa snorted at that. "I don't know who would be more effective, Steve or Bucky. Steve would politely herd me, but Bucky might just throw me over his shoulder."
"Not that you'd complain," Taylor teased, nudging her friend gently.
Alissa snickered. "No kidding," she agreed. "Not that you'd complain if Steve decided to go caveman on you."
Taylor blushed slightly.
"No, I probably wouldn't," she agreed. "That's not a bad thought at all. Though I doubt he would, he seems a bit uptight for something like that." |
"Yeah, maybe," Alissa said with a shrug. "You never know, though. Anyway, you were going to go find your Captain and have coffee, and I was going to go adjust a bit before dinner."
"I sent him to get cleaned up," Taylor said. "As much as I appreciate how he looks with the uniform on, he needed to change."
