Alissa snickered and stood. "You know Steve, he probably rushed through cleaning up to see you again sooner."
"This is true," Taylor admitted, grinning a bit. "Which means he might have missed a button on his shirt again, we'll see."
"Seriously." Alissa grinned. "Go on and check for me, I'll go see if I can't find a bit of peace. I'll see you at dinner, and yes I will be there."
"Good," Taylor said. She gave her friend a hug. "See you later, then."
"See you." Alissa returned the hug before she headed out to meander around.
Steve was already back at their normal table by the time Taylor got there, and he hadn't missed a button. But his hair wasn't exactly neat and even. |
"Hey," Taylor said, sitting down with him. "I went to check on Alissa while you were gone." She grinned a bit, teasing. "Nice hair."
"How is she?" Steve asked, blinking and reaching up reflexively to check his hair. "And what's wrong with my hair?"
"She's fine," Taylor replied. "She just wants a bit of her-time right now. She'll meet everyone at dinner." She grinned a little. "Here, hold still..." Reaching up, she combed her fingers through is hair, straightening it out where she could.
Steve obediently held still, grinning a little as she fixed his hair. "Thanks," he murmured, looking at her.
"No problem," Taylor replied, turning a little pink.
Steve smiled but stopped short of actually kissing her, because this wasn't the place. He did take her hand, though.
Taylor squeezed his hand gently. She really did kind of want him to kiss her, but she knew it wasn't the right place, either. Later, though; later was a different story.
Steve settled in there with her, content to have a bit of time.
"I don't think I'll have to go anywhere for a little while, at least not until we get some new intel," he said, looking at her. |
"That's good," Taylor said. She smiled a bit. "I wouldn't mind having more time with you."
"Good. There isn't much over here, but I know there are some shows that'll come through soon. I was thinking we could catch one of them." Steve grinned suddenly. "The rest of the USO tour groups make better performers than I did."
"As long as they don't try to get you up on stage with them," Taylor teased. "Though it might be amusing if they do."
"Nah, they won't try, I hope," Steve said with a grin. "But if they do I'm dragging you with me."
"Oh no you don't," Taylor replied, grinning. "I'm no good up on stage, I'd just embarrass us both."
"You couldn't embarrass me," Steve said with a grin. "But I might let you off the hook. Maybe."
"Trust me, I can find some way to embarrass you," Taylor said. "Besides, do you really want this half of the world to know that I'm your girlfriend right now?"
"We're pretty safe here," Steve pointed out. "But I have tried to be discrete here. Just in case."
"I've noticed," Taylor replied. She turned faintly pink. "I hadn't realized how reserved people used to be. Public displays of affection are much more common in 2014."
"Some people are more public," Steve said with a little shrug. "Buck usually is. I've just never been a big person for that kind of thing, I guess. 'Specially not over here."
Taylor shook her head.
"No, it's still different," she said. "I can't explain it. But I know you'll understand it when you get there." |
Steve grinned. "I'll keep that in mind," he said. "Maybe by then I won't be so reserved." Because he'd noticed she sometimes got a bit pouty over that.
