"It is," Steve agreed with a grin. "I'll let you settle in, Sarah will let us know when dinner is ready. My room is right next to yours, so just pound on the wall if you need anything."
Taylor couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed that they had separate rooms, but she nodded.
"Alright," she said. She rolled over so she could see him. "What's the plan after dinner?" |
"Stars are very visible out here," Steve said. "Sarah won't mind us taking a few blankets out. If we're lucky, we'll get s'mores."
"Sounds like fun," Taylor said, grinning. "How long have you been wanting to bring me out here?"
"Sixty years or so. Since the second time I stayed here." Steve shrugged. At least he was being honest.
Taylor blinked.
"That's a long time to hang on to a plan," she said. She grinned. "I guess now you'll just have to bring me here more often, now that you can." |
"Trust me, I plan on it," Steve said with a grin. "Although maybe next time we'll go a bit farther away. I may have found a few good places like this.
"I look forward to it, then," Taylor said, grinning back.
Steve grinned and went to go answer the door when the dinner call came.
"Ready to go eat?" he asked. |
"Ready when you are," Taylor replied, getting up. She stretched a bit. "Whatever it is, it smells great."
"The food here is always good," Steve said with a grin. He offered her his hand. "And they're used to my appetite by now."
"That's impressive in and of itself," Taylor teased as she took his hand. "I've seen your appetite in action."
Steve just grinned at that. Yeah, it was amusing sometimes to watch people's reaction to how much he could eat if he wanted to.
"Have you gone for any eating contests?" Taylor asked, grinning. "Please say yes. That's definitely something you should take advantage of every once in a while."
"I've done a few, so has Buck," Steve said with a grin. "Those are fun because people don't expect us to win."
"Their loss," Taylor said, grinning as well. She squeezed his hand a little. "How long did it take for word to get around that you two could take on most eating challenges?"
"We spaced them out enough that whenever we went somewhere new, they were surprised," Steve said with a shit-eating little grin. "We tried not to get a reputation. More fun that way."
Taylor couldn't help but laugh a bit.
"You turned devious while I was gone," she said. "I like it." |
Steve grinned. "We got bored once in a while, I think we both became a little devious." He didn't sound at all sorry about it.
"I'm not complaining," Taylor said. She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Like I said, I kind of like it."
Steve grinned. "Guess you'll have to stick around to see how devious I am now," he teased.
Taylor grinned.
"I plan to," she said. "You're not getting rid of me that easily." |
"Good." Steve kissed her cheek and then ushered her into the dining room, pulling out a chair for her.
Taylor sat down with a small smile and let him push the chair in again for her. Seventy years and he was still a gentleman. She definitely liked that.
Dinner was fun. The couple knew Steve well and teased him and asked questions about the two of them, but they didn't pry, and they were a bit careful not to offend Taylor. Just in case.
