It was a couple weeks before they made it to the tower, and Kenzie did manage to convince Gemma to go with her. Steve and Bucky walked them to the tower and into the elevator, while Kenzie looked around curiously.
Gemma looked around, a bit nervous. She'd never been somewhere so famous before, or so full of technology. It was a bit intimidating.
"Don't worry," Steve murmured to her. "The others won't filter in for a bit. We're trying not to overwhelm you."
The doors opened, and instantly Kenzie's eyes went bright gold as she looked around, fairly quivering, because there were at least two more people up here that she had to have. |
"This place is huge," Gemma murmured in return. "How does anyone actually live here? This looks like something out of a sci-fi movie." She paused when she saw Kenzie react. "Oh no..."
"That would be Tony," Steve said dryly. Then he blinked at Gemma's reaction. "What? What's wrong?"
Kenzie set off out of the elevator, her nose raised just slightly as she sorted through the scents, trying to figure out which of her soon to be hoard members was closest. |
"She's found someone else," Gemma murmured, watching Kenzie. "Look at her eyes. She found someone else to hoard."
Steve looked and blinked, startled. And then he swore quietly under his breath when Kenzie took off unerringly, following her nose straight down to Tony's lab.
Oh boy. This was going to be interesting. |
Gemma followed Kenzie, wary. She had a very good idea of what was about to happen. She got there just in time to see Kenzie slip into the lab.
Kenzie made her way over to Tony and smiled. Yes, he was definitely one of hers now. She made her strange rumbling-purr sound, careful to move around to his front where he could see her first, and gently touched his cheek and his hair.
Steve just watched, covering half his face with one hand. Yup, this was a disaster, alright. |
Tony blinked when he saw her, and skittered back a bit.
"Hey, hey, no, no touching, there's no touching here," he said. "Where did you even come from?" |
"The stairs," Kenzie said, still pleased. "Bucky let us up, as did your captain." She didn't try to touch him again. Yet.
"How did you get into my lab?" Tony asked, looking around. "I don't remember letting you into my lab, and I'd remember doing that." He glanced at her, though it was more like a side eye. "And why are you looking at me like that?"
"The door was open," Kenzie said. "How much did Bucky explain to you? About dragons." Because depending on how much had been said, that could make things a whole lot easier with Tony.
Tony raised an eyebrow.
"Wait, you're the dragon lady?" he asked, skeptical. Yeah, no, he wasn't going to believe in dragons right off the bat, sorry. |
Kenzie grinned. "I am," she agreed. "Although I've not been called as such for quite a long time."
"Uh huh," Tony replied. "That doesn't tell me why you're in my lab."
"Because you're one of mine now." Kenzie smiled, undeniably smug. "Although there is one more in this tower I wish to find."
"Wait, what?" Tony asked, blinking. "No, stop, back up, I don't belong to anyone, what makes you think you can just waltz in here and lay claim?"
Kenzie blinked, tilting her head to the side. "It is my nature," she said. "Bucky did say he had told you of me." Her eyes narrowed just slightly in suspicion.
"Terminator said something about it, yeah, but telling isn't believing," Tony retorted. He looked her over briefly. "I'm still not sure I even believe you're a dragon."
Kenzie chuckled at that. "The others have expressed such disbelief," she said, clearly not put out. "Perhaps I will prove it to you all soon."
"Yeah, because I'm still not on board with the whole dragon thing," Tony replied, turning around to his workbench again.
Kenzie laughed quietly, her eyes still gold, and shook her head a bit. "You will have your proof soon enough," she said, content for now. She had one new hoard member, and another in the building to be found still. It was a good day.
Gemma watched from the door, her arms crossed tightly. Oh she did not like this at all.
Kenzie noticed, of course, but there was nothing she could do now. She knew Gemma didn't even like sharing with one other person, but she kind of needed to adjust. Kenzie had been as patient as she knew how, and hoard or no, dragons did not entirely change their lifestyles for one person.
