"Hush, you," Gemma muttered as she settled in. She did, however, lean a little towards Steve when he finally sat down as well.
Only Natasha and Bruce hadn't yet gone over. Clint waved an arm from where he was sprawled on Kenzie's back. "Nat," he called. "Come on, it's fine." |
Steve shifted a bit to put an arm around Gemma, getting comfortable there.
Natasha eyed Kenzie for a few moments but, when the dragon didn't so much as stir, she moved over and started climbing. "You better be right about that," she said calmly as she pulled herself up onto Kenzie's back. |
Gemma leaned against him more, getting comfortable. She sighed softly.
"It's fine," Clint said as Natasha climbed up. "You made it, didn't you?" "May as well come over too, Brucie," Tony said, looking over. "You have zero reason to say no, so come on." |
"Alright?" Steve asked her quietly, glancing down at her.
"I meant that she doesn't mind." Nat gave him a mildly reproachful look, because how dare he doubt that she could get up somewhere he could? Bruce calculated his chances of getting away with saying no, sighed, and moved over to sit with Tony. |
"Fine," Gemma replied softly. "This is... nice."
"That's what I meant too," Clint replied, grinning. "You made it this far, didn't you? Didn't get roasted or chomped on." Tony grinned when Bruce sat down. "See? It's all good, Bruciekins." |
"It is," Steve agreed. "And surprisingly comfortable." And warm. Kenzie was very warm. Steve would be rather surprised if they managed to detach Bucky at all before the trip home.
Natasha snorted but settled down up there. It was a good vantage point, and she could see a few ways that it would be an easily defensible spot. Apart from, y'know, live dragon. Bruce heaved a long-suffering sigh. "One of these days, Tony, you're going to be wrong, and you're not going to enjoy that." |
"It's always nice to snuggle up to Kenzie," Gemma said, nodding. "Like a giant scaly heater."
"Not wrong yet~!" Tony replied, grinning smugly. |
Steve chuckled. "Do you ever have to run heating in your apartment?" he asked.
Bruce snorted and leaned back against Kenzie. "More give than I would have thought," he murmured, half-turning and poking the scales. |
"Not usually," Gemma replied, grinning. "Though I do keep a kerosine space heater, just in case."
"I noticed that too," Tony agreed. He handed Bruce the scale Kenzie had pulled off for him. "Here, look." |
Steve chuckled. "That's pretty convenient. Although I imagine not so much in the summer."
Bruce took it and took a closer look. "More flexible than I would have guessed," he murmured. "Is that... are those gold flecks in there?" He turned the scale to get a better look at the little bits of gold he could see. |
"Pretty much," Gemma replied. "I make do in the summer."
"What?" Tony took the scale back and looked at it close. "What is that?" |
Steve chuckled. "I'm surprised you don't kick her out during the summer."
"It looks like gold," Bruce said. "I'm not an expert, I'd need a sample to tell for sure, but I think that's actual gold." |
"I've been tempted," Gemma admitted, grinning a bit. "But a little magic and creativity make the apartment livable in the hotter months."
Tony looked honestly torn between a desperate need to Science! and the surprising desire to stay where he was for the moment. "We're definitely running tests when we get back to the Tower," he said. |
Steve laughed a little at that. "Buck and I used to hate the summer," he said. "Even with the windows open it was too hot to sleep most nights."
"Once we get back," Bruce agreed, leaning back a bit against Kenzie. |
"I put a cooler of ice behind a box fan," Gemma admitted. "So it blows cool air for a while. It's nice."
|
"I'm kind of surprised there isn't some other magical thing you can do," Steve said with a little shrug.
|
"I don't have a lot of raw power," Gemma replied. "I just don't have the magical stamina to keep up a spell all summer to keep the apartment cool, and I use just this side of too much magic to keep an air conditioner running. The fans have to do."
|
"Ah, okay," Steve said. That made sense. "More of your rules. Keep this up and I'll end up learning more than you want me to." He grinned.
|
"I don't think I'll mind," Gemma replied, a bit teasingly. "Besides those aren't really rules. Just working around some limitations, that's all."
|
"You have taught me some rules," Steve said with a shrug. "And some other things."
|
"True," Gemma said. She grinned a bit, teasingly. "The big rule is 'so harm it none, do as you will,' if you're interested."
|
Steve snorted. "Yeah, broken that one already," he muttered. "Although I don't think Hydra agents count. Or robots."
|
"Yeah, we'll, you're a special case," Gemma replied, grinning. "Think of it as you're the one dishing out the bad karma that the robots and Hydra accumulated."
|
"I'm okay with that," Steve agreed with a grin. "Absolutely okay with that so long as I don't have to stop." Because he'd found blowing up Hydra bases to be really kind of therapeutic.
|
Gemma couldn't help but laugh a bit at that.
"Just don't accumulate much bad karma of your own," she teased. She leaned against him a bit. |
