"She fell asleep here, not gonna move her," Steve muttered. "She's comfortable enough to sleep."
"'M surprised," Bucky murmured. "It's hard to feel safe after something like that." He smirked. "Though I guess there's not much safer she can be."
Steve flipped him off, though he was smirking a bit too. "Jerk," he muttered affectionately.
"Punk," Bucky murmured in return. Then he headed into another room to settle for a while, leaving Steve and Gemma alone.
The next few weeks passed quickly enough. Steve spent most of his spare time with Gemma and Bucky, and fortunately no one major tried to take over the world.
It took most of those few weeks for Gemma to really feel comfortable in her own skin again. She was always sort of aware of the magic in her system, now, but she felt less like an over-filled balloon and more like an actual person again. She was even comfortable enough to start taking lessons from Strange.
Steve didn't hover around those lessons because he knew he was way out of his depth. But he somehow always managed to be around right after lessons ended up with tea or coffee, depending on the day. And he was glad she was improving, relieved she felt better.
Even if Kenzie was still completely MIA. |
Gemma was worried about Kenzie, between everything else. It wasn't like the dragon to just disappear off the face of the planet like that, especially without some sort of note or communication. She didn't even have the faintest clue of where Kenzie might have gone.
"You alright?" Steve asked, looking at Gemma. "You look like you were a long ways away there." He cracked a little grin.
"Worried about Kenzie," Gemma admitted as she sat down next to him. "I haven't heard anything from her, and it's not like her to vanish like this."
Steve frowned. "Think we'd have any luck if we tried searching for her?" he asked.
"I don't know," Gemma admitted, nibbling her lip a little. "Magic is always weird around dragons, to begin with, and I have no idea where to even start looking if a tracking spell fails."
Steve sighed. "Well, it was a thought," he murmured. "Although Tony might help look, if I hint."
"Might be worth hinting," Gemma said. She shook her head a bit and sighed. "Though he's been making noises lately about magic in the tower. Maybe I should head back to my apartment."
"I'll find out if he's just making noise to make noise or if he's bothered," Steve said. "No use rushing out if it's just Tony being Tony."
"I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable when I still don't really know what I'm doing," Gemma protested. "Besides, I mean, it's kind of his tower, after all."
"I'll talk to him," Steve repeated. "Just to find out. It'll be fine, don't worry."
"You don't have to," Gemma said, holding up her hands a bit. "Really. I don't mind going back to my place. I need to get the shop into shape, anyways."
"Even so, I'll ask him, because it's good for me to know," Steve said. "Besides, I need to talk to him about Kenzie, too."
"Alright," Gemma said. She didn't immediately move away from him, though.
Steve didn't move either just yet. He'd gotten used to being in her personal space a lot recently, and found he really didn't mind.
Gemma reluctantly got up after a little while.
"I really should go and sort out my shop," she said. "I can't keep closing it down like this when I can't be there." |
"Do you need help with it?" Steve asked. "Maybe you should hire someone to help out, since you have a lot on your plate."
"I've thought about it," Gemma admitted. "I just need to open it for a little while first, to make sure I can pay someone to work for me."
Steve nodded. "Sounds fair," he agreed. "Do you need help with anything? I've been told I'm pretty good at lifting boxes."
