"Come sit and play," Clint replied, grinning. He glanced at her. "You walked right into that one."
Kenzie chuckled but indulged him, settling in next to him and picking up a controller. She'd played a time or two before, but not often enough for him to know that she did actually have experience with these games.
Clint smirked and started a new round. She might not have played often, but he knew experience when he saw it. For once, he could up the ante with someone other than Nat.
Kenzie had fun just playing for a while, relaxing again. After a little while, she sort of kept track of the rest of her people; Bucky was still there, just hanging out, and she could tell Tony was down in the lab. That felt much better than having them so far away.
Clint mentally nodded when he saw her relax. That was good.
"Been to quiet without you and your girl here," he commented. "Well, relatively quiet." |
"I'll check in with Gemma soon," Kenzie said, glancing at him. "As for myself... well, Tony had been making noises about running tests, and I have no reason to go stay in the apartment again without Gemma there."
Clint grinned at that.
"Hey, cool," he said. "Come and bunk with us, then, that'll be awesome. Phil won't mind, I know that." |
Kenzie chuckled. "He won't mind having a dragon invade his private rooms?" she asked, her voice dry, as she managed to beat him.
"Who, Phil?" Clint asked. He grinned and shook his head a bit as he restarted the game. "Nah, he'd probably be fascinated. He's weird like that. I mean, hey, he likes me and Nat, y'know?"
"You two are not that weird," Kenzie said, nudging him affectionately. "Not in the larger scheme of things."
"Until the Chitauri, we were about as weird as Phil ever had to deal with," Clint said with a shrug. "No big deal, really, we're used to being a little weird. I'm pretty sure there's a betting pool at SHIELD over what kind of weird we are."
Kenzie snorted. "That would not surprise me," she agreed with a little smile. "Fortunately for us, weird does not automatically mean bad."
"That is true," Clint replied, grinning. "Either way, don't you need to check in with everyone? You've only seen me'n'Tony'nBarnes, right? Or're you settling in before you go find your girl?"
"I'll see her in a few days, I know she's not here," Kenzie said with a shrug. "Wherever she is, she feels safe there, so she's alright for now." That much she could tell easily from the bond.
Clint raised an eyebrow slightly, but nodded.
"Alright," he said. He grinned. "May as well stick around, then, it's Banner's turn to cook tonight and he promised to break out the good spices for once." |
Kenzie grinned. "Spices are good," she agreed mildly. "And I haven't seen him in even longer than you."
"Who, Banner?" Clint asked. He grinned. "Yeah, I bet. And I also bet that if you catch him in the kitchen, you can convince him to ramp up the spice in the curry some more."
Kenzie grinned at him. "Clint, if I had him spice the curry as much as I wanted, no one else would be able to eat it," she told him. "I like spicy."
"I think I hear a challenge," Clint said, smirking. "I might need to accept that one, I like spice. Carnie chili eats the spoon, c'mon now."
"I'm a dragon," Kenzie reminded him dryly. "I spit flame at people when they annoy me too much."
Clint smirked.
"Come on, lemme at it, I can handle some spicy food. I even got Phil to sign off on one of those waivers so I could eat a Carolina Reaper pepper once." |
Kenzie snorted. "You asked for it," she said with a little smirk. "I'll ask Bruce if we can get our own bowl so you can see how spicy I take my food."
Clint grinned widely.
"Yes, I win," he said. Natasha just rolled her eyes from the doorway. She'd heard everything. "Phil told me about the pepper," she said. She smirked. "He also told me you cried for the rest of the day after eating it, and might have hallucinated, he wasn't entirely certain." |
Kenzie snorted. "Are you sure you want to do this in the sentient building with an AI who has no reason not to take potential blackmail videos?" she asked Clint, though she was clearly amused. She glanced back at Natasha and raised an eyebrow, silently inviting her to join them on the couch.
"He lost his shame a long time ago," Natasha said as she sat down. She ruffled Clint's hair a little, and he batted at her hand and scowled. "I'm almost certain Jarvis still has a video somewhere of the time Clint got drunk, lost in strip poker, and decided to take over the living room and build a couch fort wearing nothing but boxers and a single sock."
"Hey, no bashing on Bartonia, it was an epic fort," Clint protested, though he was grinning a bit. "It was four couch cushions and a towel," Natasha responded evenly, giving him a fond smile. |
