"Good idea," Legolas agreed. "Straight to the running course, then?"
"If you like," Vena said. "Otherwise, I wouldn't terribly mind a proper tour...?" She glanced at him to see if his reaction would be favorable or not.
Legolas nodded. "Yes, I'm sure you would," he agreed. "I'm surprised it took you this long to ask." He shot her a quick grin and altered course slightly, heading for the village.
"I'm surprised you didn't offer," Vena countered as she followed him. She grinned a bit. "I would have thought that would have been part of newbie orientation or something."
"No," Legolas said. "You wanted to look on your own, I figured you would ask when you wanted to know more." He shrugged.
"Well, I've asked," Vena said. "I do want to know more now."
Legolas just led her to the little outpost outside the village. "This is where the watchers stay when they have long shifts," he told her. "There are cabins here, and everything they need. A few have chosen to stay here full time."
Vena looked around as he showed her the outpost. Something about it was extremely familiar, in a way she couldn't quite put her finger on. She gently laid a hand on the elegantly carved wood of the little cabin.
"For some reason, I keep wanting this to be made of another kind of wood," she said. "Something... white." |
"Hmm." Legolas glanced at her with a little smile. "White, hmm?" Well that answered the question of where she had been from.
"Or very pale, at least," Vena said. "Somehow the darker wood doesn't seem right." She paused. "Listen to me, I sound like a lunatic."
"Not entirely." Legolas smiled. "There are two other posts like this, so we have some privacy."
"Still, it's none of my business what they're made of," Vena pointed out. Still, she couldn't help but feel that it was wrong, somehow.
Legolas just grinned and continued on his way. "Would you like a tour of the town?" he asked, glancing back at her.
Vena smiled a bit.
"Sure, as long as it's not too much trouble," she said. "I mean, we were kind of forcibly escorted out last time." |
"That was last time," Legolas pointed out. "You're with me this time." He shrugged, because clearly that made a difference.
"What makes you so important?" Vena asked, a bit teasing. And she was definitely not flirting, thank you.
Legolas grinned at that. "I'm not quite in charge, but I am close to it," he said, leading the way to the hobbit village. "You'll likely get a few looks while we're here, they're not so used to outsiders."
"I figured," Vena said. She glanced at him as he walked her into the village. "So how close is 'pretty close' when it comes to being in charge?"
