The guy smiled, his teeth flashing in the torchlight. "Do you think I'm stupid?" He asked with a chuckle. "I'm no match for you in a fair fight. That's why I have the gun. Now step away from her. I haven't finished with her yet." He said. Rosemary whimpered in fear. She tried to get up, but still couldn't support her weight. "Please don't do this, Peter. I told you I'm never going to tell who they are, so just give up. Do you really think this is going to make me like you?"
|
"I'm not going anywhere you son of a bitch." Damien pulled his sword free and took his stance. "But you are." He smirked.
Jason found the room first and dodged out of view stopping Bruce from going any further. |
Bruce stopped short and hid quickly, watching with interest.
"You shut up! I'll get you to love me, one way or another!" The guy snarled at Rosemary. Then he turned to Damian and smirked, his attitude changing as quickly as the wind. "Bringing a sword to a gun fight, eh? Isn't that a bit backwards?" He didn't wait for an answer before firing straight at Damian's head. |
"No it's not." Damien easily dodged the bullet and rolled to his feet sword flying out catching the other boys arm ripping the flesh open.
"He'll kill him." Jason realized with a gasp. |
Bruce held up a hand. "...No, he won't. He wants to, but he won't."
The guy dodged out of the way skillfully, though his shirt was ripped open slightly to reveal metal underneath. "Did you think I wouldn't come prepared? Your sword won't work here." He laughed. "He's lying! The armor only covers-" Rosemary was cut off by a gunshot that came frighteningly close to her face. "You will be silent!" The guy snarled, then fired off a few shots at Damian again. His aim was incredible, and probably would have hit anyone else. |
Damien rolled threw the shots easily escaping them a frown on his face. He could end it and just cut the boys throat open but he wouldn't do that as much as he wanted to instead he focused his thoughts on the boys body. He knew how armor would look like under cloths thanks to the ninja that worked for his grandfather with a smirk he slashed the boy' one weak spot. His other hand came up and grabbed his wrist applying enough force to break it.
|
The guy was just as adept at dodging as Damian was, and the slash missed him completely. He jumped back, smiling. "Your aim is good, but you're underestimating me." He laughed. His next shot hit Rosemary in the shoulder, making her cry out. "Go for his crotch!" She shouted, clearly pissed off. Another shot hit her stomach, and she coughed up blood. "Really, now, I thought you were smarter than that. If you keep talking, I won't be able to let you live." The guy relaxed his stance and looked at Damian. "Robin. We can cut this short right now if you simply tell me what I want to know. Rosey here is stubborn, she wouldn't tell me who you really are. I've followed her for months, which was how I found out she was Batgirl. That's when I decided that not only would she be mine, but she would tell me if my suspicions about your identity were true. So, how about it? Take off the mask and we can bring little Rosey to a hospital." He was completely unguarded, and monologue-ing.
Bruce clenched his fist. Now, Damian! Hit him now! He thought desperately. |
Damien's eyes turned black with anger and he kicked him hard enough in the lower region to break something.
"Oh." Jason flinched "I felt that." |
Bruce cringed and nodded in agreement. "Nice shot..."
The guy crumbled like a sack of bricks, dropping the gun to hold his man-parts and sobbing openly. By the light of the torch that had fallen right near him, his face was finally visible. It was a boy their age, from their class. Rosemary snorted. "I...warned you...Peter..." She said between gasps. "You should...never...make Robin angry..." She coughed up more blood. "Robin...that's Peter Johnson...he's in my math class." Of course Damian would already know this, but she had to make it look like they didn't go to school together. "Medic..." |
Jason entered at that moment. "Hey there." he smiled at them and picked up Rose. "Come on you."
Damien stood over the boy his hand shaking a little fighting the urge to kill the boy. |
Bruce came in as well, and put a hand on Damian's shoulder. "I'll take it from here, Robin. You did an excellent job." He said.
Rosemary cried out in pain at being moved. "So...bullets hurt..." She huffed. She was losing blood quickly from both her shoulder and stomach. "I can smell purple." |
Jason snorted and with Damien help ran out to the car driving them to the hospital while Damien held Rose close.
|
Bruce tied up the kid and dropped him off at the police station, along with a note detailing his crimes. Then he went and changed and headed for the hospital.
The second they got to the hospital, doctors whisked Rosemary away to the operating room. There was a lot of commotion after that. |
Damien paced while Jason called Lori who called Gemini. Shortly later both appeared in record even by there standards.
|
Gemini appeared almost before the phone call was finished. It was almost like she teleported. She looked terrified, but also absolutely pissed. "If I ever get my hands on the scum who did that to my child, he'll wish Damian had killed him." She said, also pacing.
Bruce got there soon after, and was only a little surprised to see Gemini and Lori there ahead of him. He went to sit down next to Lori. "Any word on her condition yet?" He asked, though it was obvious no one had heard anything yet. |
"Nothing." Lori squeezed Bruce's hand tighter then she meant too.
|
Bruce winced slightly, but didn't comment on it. "She'll be fine. She's a strong girl." He said, trying to convince himself as well as everyone else.
It was hours before any news of Rosemary's condition came. A doctor finally came out of the OR, covered in sweat and blood, to talk to them."It was a difficult surgery." He said. "The shoulder and stomach wounds were the worst of her injuries by far. The bullet in her shoulder came dangerously close to her heart, but we managed to avoid any damage there. As for the stomach wound, there was some damage to her reproductive organs. Nothing life-threatening, but if she has any hopes of being a mother one day, she will be disappointed. We have decided to let you, her loved ones, tell her that particular news. She will have permanent scarring from the bullet wounds, but everything else will heal perfectly." The man sighed. He looked exhausted, and clearly drained by the surgery. "She is asleep right now, but the anesthesia will wear off soon. I ask that only two of you go in to see her at one time." |
Lori pressed a hand to her heart. "Oh thank God she's alright." she sighed "You go first Gemini."
Damien stopped passing and took a deep breath. "thank goodness." |
Gemini nodded. "Thank you, doctor." She said as she went past him and into the room where Rosemary was resting. She was in there for a few minutes, then came back out again, crying. "Bruce, she wants to see you and Lori next." She said, sniffling.
((Damian will be last.)) |
Lori and Bruce went in Lori clinging to Bruce's hand.
|
Rosemary was laying in the hospital bed, wrapped almost completely in bandages. Her face was clear of them, though, and she was awake- though still groggy. An I.V. hung from a pole beside the bed, dripping slowly into her arm, and a monitor in the corner was beeping steadily. She looked up as the door opened and smiled a little. "Hi Auntie Lori, Uncle Bruce. You're not going to cry, too, are you?"
|
"I'll try not to sweetheart. I wish I had never told you about Damien liking you." Lori sighed softly.
|
Rosemary frowned and shook her head. "Why? That's not why this happened." She said. "Don't ever feel bad for telling the truth. The only one at fault here is me. I should have recognized that boy's obsession sooner."
|
"I;m just glad your alright sweetheart." Lori smiled at Rose.
|
Rose smiled back. "Me too. Uncle Bruce? You haven't spoken at all." She looked at him with confusion.
Bruce shook his head and sighed. "I'm sorry, Rosemary. I guess I was just...shocked to see you like this. I'm so sorry. I know you're going to say it's not my fault, but I still feel responsible." He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm supposed to watch over you kids. Your mother trusted me with your safety, and I couldn't even find you in time..." "Please don't feel guilty, Uncle Bruce. Peter did his homework about all of us. It's really no one's fault, okay?" "If you say so..." "I do say so. Now...can you send Jason in so I can tell him the same thing?" |
