"I HATE HER!" Lori screeched tossing a picture from against the wall. "She's a ***** and every other word!" she choose to throw her jewelery box next just barely missing Bruce. "I wish she was dead!" she saw herself in the mirror and grabbed her brush throwing it at the mirror which cracked. "I wish she had never been born!" she throw something heavier at the mirror this time. It took a second for her to realize what she had said and looked horrified. "no I didn't mean that. I didn't." her voice caught. "Because then Damien wouldn't be around."
Bruce knew enough to stay quiet while Lori raged, though he wished he could do something for her. "I'm sorry." He said once she stopped. "If I had been more careful with her...I had plenty of chances to turn away, but I kept letting her go. Letting her live. Maybe...I should have just let her die the first time."
"Damien wouldn't be with us and he's so sweet. The perfect boy when he's not getting into trouble. He called me mom the other day. I don't think he had even noticed he had said it." Lori rubbed her eyes. "I still had her. I hate her so much it scares me. The way I feel the things I want to do. Even you would lock me away."
Tentatively, Bruce moved forward to hug Lori. "I understand, Lori. I do. I..." He took a deep breath. "You have no idea, the thoughts I've had. Sometimes I think I should be in Arkham. When she stabbed you, I...I almost did it, Lori. I almost killed her. I wanted to. The...the only reason I didn't is because I was more worried about you." He sighed. "I won't ever apologize for Damian, because he's family. We wouldn't be the same without him. But I'll apologize for the rest of my life for letting Talia get away."
Lori collapsed into Bruce's arms trying so hard not to blame him for being near Talia in the first place. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like with Talia gone definitely less stressful and maybe just maybe she would have had Damien instead.
Though he didn't ask, Bruce could pretty much guess what Lori was thinking. It was nothing he hadn't wondered a million times before, himself. "I'm so sorry." He whispered.
"Why did you go to the League of Shadows?" Lori blurted out. "Why did you have to meet her?" she was shaking from anger or sadness she wasn't sure. "I..." she pulled away and began to race running her hand threw her hair making a mess out of it.
Bruce shook his head. "I...I really don't know, Lori. I don't remember." He said, looking broken. "I have absolutely no memory of that time."
"No memory?" Lori stared at him. "You went to them willingly and you don't remember any of it?" she blinked. "Is that even possible?"
Bruce shrugged. "It must be possible, because that's how it is." He said. "I've wondered if maybe they did something to me while I was there. Maybe they wiped my memory. I don't know."
"Then...how am I suppose to respond to that?" Lori groaned and hit her head on the wall a couple times. She examined the mess she had made. "It's not as bad as I wanted it to be." she grumbled.
Bruce blinked, then chuckled. He didn't mean to, it just sort of happened. "You're something else, you know that?" He said affectionately.
"I know." Lori grinned and then kissed him gentle. "I love you."
"I love you, too." Bruce said. "More than life itself." He knew things would be difficult for a while, but he also knew they would get through it together.
Lori took Bruce's hand. "We should probably clean up my mess." she sighed and went to begin picking up the shards of glass. Damien was just on his way to his room when he spotted the mess. "Are you two alright?" he entered and began helping Lori clean. "You should be taking it easy." he scolded.
Bruce knelt down and started picking things up. "We're fine." He told Damian. "And he's right, Lori. You really should be resting."
Lori sighed. "Alright. I'll let the boys handle it." She sat on the bed watching them clean "my two handsome men."
Damien blushed and looked away hiding a smile. |
Bruce just smiled, not hiding it at all. After a moment of silence, he chuckled. "Am I the only one imagining Jason sitting at Martha's tea party?" He asked.
"Poor boy." Lori laughed. "She probably had him put on a dress." She laughed harder.
Damien blinked. "She's done that to me. It's not funny." That only made Lori laugh harder. "Meh." He was smirking trying hard not to laugh. |
Bruce started laughing, only to laugh harder at Damian's expression. "It's okay, Damian. She's done it to me, too." He said. "It's nearly impossible to say no to her."
"Just like her mother." Lori smirked. "You can't say no to me." "I can." Damisn smirked. "Yes well your not in love with me." Lori chuckled. "I love you." Damien blushed and fled the room. "Did he just say that?" Lori blinked.
Bruce was silent for a moment. "I'm pretty sure he did." He finally answered, smiling at her. "I knew he loved you. It's impossible not to, after all. Plus...you've been a better mother to him than his own mother was."
"I just never expected him to say that." Lori broke into a grin. "I'm the luckiest girl in the world." She yawned.
Bruce smiled. "And I feel like the luckiest man in the world." He told her. "Now, you lay down and get some rest. I'll be right here when you wake up."
"Promise not to leave." Lori settle onto there bed and moved over so that he could lie next to her.
