"We're waiting on Thor to show up," Bucky replied, sitting down by the window. "He seemed interested in the whole situation, so he wants to check things out for himself."
"Lovely, another person to gawk at us," Leia muttered, looking away from him. "When do we get to go home?"
"It's not safe for you to go back to Earth, not with poachers in this sector," Bucky replied, glancing at her. "They'll only go after you again."
"Why would they go after us again?" Leia said, her eyes narrowing a bit at him. "The first group didn't succeed, I'm sure word of that got out, and as far as anyone else knows we're nothing special."
"You're twins," Bucky said bluntly. "That's very special all on its own."
Leia made a face but didn't argue further, instead settling for glowering grumpily out the window.
It didn't take much longer after that for Bucky to hear the high whine of engines as another ship got close to theirs.
"That'll be Thor," he murmured as he got up and headed for the door. |
Steve fell into step next to him. "So, how do you think this is going to go?" he murmured.
"Either fireworks, or a disaster," Bucky replied quietly. "Could go either way, I mean, it is Thor we're talking about."
"It could do both, since this is Thor," Steve said with a grin. "Like with Foster, remember? Fireworks, complete disaster, more fireworks."
Bucky snickered.
"That was awesome," he agreed. "Wish we coulda sold tickets or something." |
"If only we'd known." Steve heaved a dramatic sigh. "Ah well. At least we got to see."
"Seriously," Bucky replied. He grinned when he saw Thor come onto their ship. "Hey, man, how've you been?"
"I have been well, my friend. And yourselves?" Thor clapped them each on the shoulder with a broad grin.
"Doin' good, doin' good," Bucky said, grinning. "I take it you got our message that something happened you'll be interested in?"
"Indeed. I'm quite curious." Thor raised an eyebrow. "You did make it sound urgent."
"Tony," Steve sighed. "But he's kind of right this time. There are some people we think you should see." |
Bucky grinned and gestured for Thor to follow him. He headed back towards the room the girls were in and knocked on the door.
"Hey," he said, poking his head into the room, "Thor's here, he wants to meet you two." |
Leia straightened a little, nodding sharply. She was nervous about this.
Thor stepped into the room, looking at the two, and his eyes widened. Oh yes, he saw the resemblance immediately. |
Diana was nervous as well, and twisted the hem of her shirt with her fingers as she waited for the initial verdict.
"The resemblance is truly uncanny," Thor finally said after a moment, glancing between the two of them. |
"Yeah, got that," Leia muttered. "Happens with identical twins." But she was too stiff, still nervous.
Thor blinked, not sure where that came from, before it dawned on him.
"Ah, no forgive me, you misunderstand," he said. "I meant to say that your resemblance to my father's mother is most remarkable. You both bear her exact likeness." |
"...What." That was something new. Completely new. Leia frowned at Bucky.
Bucky nudged Thor.
"We never got around to explaining about Recurrences," he murmured. "It took us this long to just get them to the point of not being alone in the universe." |
"Ah, I see," Thor said. "Once in a while, genetics... repeat themselves," he told the girls. "It is rare, but Recurrences do happen. It is likely that you are both, somehow, a Recurrence of my father's mother. You look just like her, more than can be explained by coincidence."
"Wait a second," Diana said, frowning a bit. "We're like... reincarnations? I didn't even know that was a thing."
