"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Cameron quipped in return as she carefully settled into the limo with him. Because of course it was a limo; she didn't expect Tony to settle for anything less.
"Always good." Tony grinned and made sure they were all in and comfortable before he settled in for the ride as well.
Sabine exchanged a look with Pepper and they both grinned. |
"Maybe for you, you attention whore," Cameron teased as the limo started. She fidgeted a bit with her clutch and the cuff on her wrist.
Tony grinned. "Well, I am used to this," he agreed.
"If you feel like it, you can walk in with me," Sabine offered. "No one ever pays attention to me." She grinned a bit. |
"That would defeat the purpose of me showing up as Tony's decoy," Cameron pointed out. "I'll be fine, as soon my hands stop shaking."
Sabine snorted quietly at that but didn't push. Instead she just settled in for the ride.
Fortunately it didn't take long to get to the event, and Sabine got out first so she could head in on her own. Tony got out to help Pepper and Cameron out. |
"Just make sure to give me some sort of warning before your powers lash out at something," Cameron murmured to Tony as the limo stopped. "So I know when I need to cover for you."
"Will do." Tony smiled a bit at her as he helped her out of the limo. "Ready?"
"As I'll ever be," Cameron replied, taking his hand and getting out of the limo as gracefully as she could.
Tony tucked her hand into the crook of his arm once she was out and started walking. "Try and relax," he murmured to her. "Who knows, you might actually have fun."
"We'll see," Cameron replied. She gave him a bit of a wry look. "Maybe I'll get to screw with some reporters."
Tony grinned at that. "That's the spirit!" He headed for the entrance of the gala, ignoring the reporters lurking outside beyond throwing them a lazy salute. Fortunately for his patience, the reporters weren't allowed inside the event.
Cameron followed Tony's lead, giving the reporters a bit of a saucy grin as they passed. She tried not to blink too much against the sudden flood of flashbulbs going off.
"See, you're a natural," Tony told her once they were inside. "No problem. Not so hard, was it?"
"I'm just following your lead," Cameron replied, glancing at him. "And I'm really glad I've had so long to figure out how you work, because I can copy it."
Tony shot her an almost startled look before he grinned. "I told Pep I'm a great role model," he said, not stopping to talk to people yet. "She never believes me."
"I wouldn't say role model," Cameron replied, grinning. "Maybe more of a good bad-example?" She shot him a teasing look.
Tony pressed a hand over his Arc in a dramatic movement. "Is that what I am now? You're terrible, darling." But he couldn't hide the fact that he was terribly amused.
Cameron couldn't help but laugh.
"And yet, it's not untrue," she teased. |
Tony pouted. "It is not true, I am a fantastic example, for certain things," he said with a big grin.
"You're the best example," Cameron agreed, grinning. "Of what not to do." She gave him another teasing look and nudged him a bit with her powers to let him know she was just joking.
Tony made a face at her and tugged at the bottom hem of her dress a little, playfully. But he was going to quit it after this, really, and she started it.
Cameron grinned.
"Careful," she said. She tugged a bit at his tie. "I can get caught. You can't." |
"That's where you and my excellent lying skills come in handy," Tony said with a little smirk.
"Uh huh," Cameron said. "Though speaking of, should I make some sort of show about it, to keep them focused on me, or are we going to wait until I actually have to make an excuse to cover for you?"
