"We're further out'n that," Logan said as he set about making the campsite habitable. It didn't take him long at all to clean up the fire pit. "We'll be out here for as long as you need."
"I'm okay," Sabine protested, frowning at him. "I'm managing." She absently grabbed some fire wood she'd spotted and started hauling it over.
"Uh huh," Logan replied, watching her haul firewood. "Keep tellin' yerself that." He eyed the pile of firewood critically; it was low, he would have to cut some more before dark.
Sabine scowled at him and dumped the firewood. "Did you really drive us all the way out here because you thought I needed a break?" she asked, simultaneously annoyed and touched, because she was contrary that way.
"So what if I did?" Logan replied, raising an eyebrow in challenge. "Chuck agreed it was a good idea, or he'd'a stopped us."
Sabine made a face at him at that and went to go put a bit more wood on the fire. Okay, she couldn't argue with that logic, not really.
Logan rolled his eyes just a bit and went to sort out dinner. He was certain he would need to go hunt something down, but he'd brought enough with them that it could wait until tomorrow, at least.
Sabine managed to find some matches and got the fire going, settling in front of it. "Was I really that bad?"
"Depends on what yer askin' about," Logan said as he pulled out some well-wrapped food. "Don't know that you were directly affectin' anyone, but you did have two meltdowns in a week."
"Those were not meltdowns," Sabine said with great dignity. "Those were venting sessions. It's not a meltdown unless something explodes."
Logan snorted a bit.
"If you say so," he said, though there was just the hint of a grin on his face. |
Sabine stuck her tongue out at him, because she was a mature adult, dammit. But she was smiling too now at least.
It took a little while, but Logan could tell when Sabine finally started to really relax. Clearly, getting away from people was exactly what she needed.
Sabine ended up just lazing in front of the fire for a while, slowly relaxing until she was quite calm again. She did glance at Logan from time to time, though.
Once he was sure Sabine was relaxing, he went to start bulking up their supply of firewood. It was starting to get dark, but he'd already taken down one tree and was working on cutting it into appropriately-sized pieces.
Sabine got curious about what he was doing after maybe five minutes and went to go look. She did, however, pause at the sight, because that was worth the drive out to the middle of nowhere.
Logan had already stripped off his overshirt and was neatly slicing up the firewood with his claws in just a plain tee. He glanced over when he heard her.
"Alright?" he asked. |
"Yup, fine," Sabine agreed. She thought briefly about offering to help and then discarded the thought. Nope, this was more efficient anyway.
Logan watched her for a moment and then nodded, going back to what he was doing. He could tell she was still watching him, though.
Sabine watched him for a few more minutes before she finally made herself do something else. Not that there was a ton to do, but she'd brought some books along. Which were rather difficult to focus on with Logan not that far away.
A while later, Logan deemed there to be enough firewood for a while, and went to see about relaxing for a bit. He didn't bother putting his over shirt back on.
Of course Sabine noticed that, and she half-hid behind her book again, because she wasn't quite ready to be caught staring at him again already. But damn the view was nice.
Logan caught her staring. Snorting softly, he went inside to make sure there was enough bedding for at least her. He could do without if he needed to, but he wanted to make sure she was squared away.
"I can help with that," Sabine offered, watching him. "Really, I'm not totally useless." She grinned a bit.
"I've got it," Logan replied. "You just get back to relaxing." He grinned just a bit.
