Sabine huffed a bit but didn't argue, instead just settling in to read for a while again. She had to admit, this had probably actually been a good idea.
Over the next few days, Logan just maintained the cabin and the campsite, making it so that Sabine could just relax. He definitely noticed that she was watching him, and he if were being honest, he was watching her, too.
Sabine ended up watching him more often than she was willing to admit. But at least she managed to keep her mind to herself, she was grateful for that. After all, Logan was just being nice and helping her out, like he'd occasionally do for one of the kids. So she confined herself to just looking.
Logan noticed that she was keeping her distance and decided to try something. He went outside to cut some more firewood, except this time he made sure to conveniently take off his shirt completely and leave it out of reach.
It took Sabine a minute to notice, but once she did she swallowed and shifted her seat so she could see him better. Oh man. Tempting view.
Logan noticed when she shifted her seat. Bingo. He kept working, but this time he might have been showing off just a little for her.
Sabine noticed he was taking his time more than usual, and blinked. Well, all the better for her. She put her book up as if she was reading it, but watched him over the top instead.
Logan let her watch for a few moments more, and then paused in his wood cutting once he'd neatly sliced up an entire tree.
"Just going to sit there and watch?" he commented to her. "You don't strike me as the look-but-don't-touch type." |
Sabine blushed and hid behind her book. "Maybe," she ventured after a few moments. "You've been busy, and I figured you don't generally like being touched anyway."
"I might be willing to make an exception," Logan responded, smirking a bit. "The work can wait."
Sabine stood slowly, setting her book aside finally. She stopped in front of him, looking him over quickly. "You sure?" she asked quietly.
"If I wasn't, we wouldn't be standing here," Logan replied, sheathing his claws.
"Even so." Sabine quirked a bit of a smile though, taking one of his hands and running her thumb over his knuckles.
Logan let her.
"If you're looking for a scar, there ain't one," he said. "Heals clean." |
"I kind of figured, with the healing factor," Sabine said with a little smile. "Figured this was a good test, actually."
"Test?" Logan raised an eyebrow. "Not gonna skewer you, if that's what you're thinking."
Sabine grinned a bit. "Clearly not," she agreed. "Which also means I might be bleeding through a bit, but not as much as I expected with you."
"Nah, just a good guess," Logan replied. "Not a whole lot else people think once they see 'em." He didn't take his hand back, however, letting her continue rubbing his knuckles.
"That's all people want to know about?" Sabine asked incredulously, her eyebrows shooting up. "Now that's just a crime."
Logan raised an eyebrow.
"Stick around me long enough, I'm bettin' you'll hear it firsthand," he pointed out. |
"I probably will," Sabine agreed with a sigh. She raised her other hand to his cheek. "That's not what I'd wonder about."
"And what would you wonder about?" Logan asked, tilting his head toward her hand just the slightest bit.
"Well," Sabine drawled, "I'd wonder more about how strong you are, exactly. Since I know you've carried me before." She grinned, rather mischievously.
Logan smirked and promptly scooped her up.
"Plenty strong," he replied. |
Sabine squeaked but grinned at that, looping her arms around his neck instead. "Clearly," she agreed. "Lumberjack."
