"Awesome, thanks," Sabine said with a grin, taking the snacks and settling in to her seat.
"My pleasure," Cameron said, settling back as well. At least she was sure she would like the movie. She had a soft spot for the animated ones.
Sabine ended up enjoying the movie. It was a fun, feel-good movie, and she left the theater feeling better than she had going in.
Cameron was in a better mood by the end, as well, and she stretched a bit as they left the theater.
"So what next?" she asked. "We still have most of the day." |
"Hmm." Sabine was quiet for a moment. "Well, if you felt like driving a little more, there's a new mall that just opened up."
"Sure, we could head out there," Cameron said, nodding. "Should be worth seeing what they have out there."
"Right." Sabine settled into her seat again, pulling up directions on her phone. "It's not too far, fortunately."
Cameron grinned.
"You know I don't care about distance. You remember the time I drove two hours through a storm for a pair of boots. I don't mind going a little ways to a new mall." |
"I know. I'm also more used to the city where people think driving is only for the insane." Sabine grinned a bit. "We'll see how long it takes us to get there, we might actually be back in time for me to grab dinner before I have to head back."
Cameron grinned.
"Perks of learning to drive in the suburbs, I guess," she said as she headed towards the new mall. "Nothing's within walking distance when there aren't even sidewalks." |
"No kidding." Sabine shook her head. "Everywhere I've lived, we've at least had sidewalks." She grinned a bit. "Must make you a country hick."
"Psh, you want a hick, I'll take you when I go see my grandparents next summer. My uncles are redneck enough, I promise," Cameron said, grinning.
"I have met them, I know," Sabine said with a grin, shaking her head. "Your family is always entertaining."
"I'm lucky my dad's side of the family accepts me," Cameron said. She grinned. "And because the x-gene is carried in males, I half expect some of my cousins to develop something."
"Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised." Sabine grinned. "Of course you have several cousins and more new ones on the way at some point."
"No kidding," Cameron replied, grinning. "Considering one of them's been married three years now."
"Yup." Sabine grinned. "More little ones for the family soon, I'm sure."
"I hope so," Cameron said. "And I hope I'm not the only freak in the family, there need to be more."
"That's why you've got your second family," Sabine pointed out. "A whole family that's all freaks, that's one hell of a support system."
"This is true," Cameron said, nodding once. "Still, could be fun to have an actual cousin as a fellow freak, too."
"Yeah." Sabine shrugged, since she had no real opinion on the matter. "So, mall and then back so I can get back to the city."
"Aye, captain," Cameron replied, grinning. She pulled the car into the lot of the new mall. "Ready when you are."
"Then let's go." Sabine grinned and headed inside to investigate the new mall.
The next week went by quickly, and Cameron was looking forward to the weekend. The week had been rough, and she was definitely looking forward to spending time with Sabine.
Sabine was just as eager to get away from work. She loved Pepper, she really did, but Pepper had just left for a meeting in Japan. Meaning that Sabine had been going a little crazy getting all the prep done before Pepper left. So she breathed a sigh of relief when she got away and headed out to the mansion.
"Hey crazies," she called to the house at large when no one was immediately at the door when she came in. That was a normal nickname, coming from her. |
