"Everyone who grabs me from behind, yes," Nika said, not even remotely remorseful. "And those who try to bully me."
"Bullying, who's bullying?" Bucky retorted, reaching down to grab the legacy again once he was sure his nose wasn't broken. "I'm doing my job here."
"As am I," Nika said, refusing to let go of the legacy. "Look, I appreciate the assist, but I didn't need help. Just let me walk with you so I can make sure to my own satisfaction that these two are taken care of, and then you'll never have to see me again."
Bucky just looked at her.
"Why are you so damn stubborn?" he asked. |
"Kind of just my nature," Nika replied with a cocky grin. "Can't help it. So, which way are we going and do we have to avoid the authorities?"
Bucky raised an eyebrow.
"Did I say you were coming with me?" he asked. |
"Do I need to punch you again?" Nika asked, raising an eyebrow right back at him. Because yes, she would be stubborn about this. And even if she didn't want to, she would punch that pretty face again.
"It's a bad idea to solve all of your problems with punching," Bucky said as he hefted the demi on his shoulder again. "I would know, I know someone who used to try that all the time."
"I don't solve all my problems that way," Nika said. "Just most of them." She smirked and motioned for him to lead the way. Because clearly she was just not taking no for an answer.
Bucky rolled his eyes, shook his head, and started back for the tower. He wouldn't take the rogues into the tower, of course, but he needed to get close enough for Jarvis to alert the others that he was back with company.
Nika walked after him quietly, taking in the route. Her eyebrows shot up when she realized approximately where they were headed, and she ran through the information she had on him.
"You know, I would apologize for punching an Avenger, but the first time you were asking for it." |
"Not an Avenger anyways," Bucky replied. He would have shrugged, but the demi over his shoulder prevented it.
"The press would disagree with you," Nika said. "I knew there was a reason you looked familiar." She was still fairly relaxed though as she followed him.
"I'm not an Avenger," Bucky repeated. He wasn't about to explain that he'd done too much to be considered a hero, so he just left it at that.
"So how far are we taking these two?" Nika asked, glancing around. She was aware she was being watched, and she wouldn't be surprised if another Avenger was keeping an eye on her.
"Not much farther, now that they're expecting us," Bucky said. "Here, hold this," he added, holding out the legacy for her.
Nika snorted but took the legacy, holding him easily. "Not going to try to drag me in again are you?" She asked, mostly teasing.
"Don't need to this time," Bucky replied as he fiddled a bit with his comm in his metal fingers. Finally, he got it to work, and quietly relayed the situation to the team.
Steve, unsurprisingly, was the first one down. He looked between the two, noting the uneasy truce, and raised a silent eyebrow at Bucky.
Nika pulled out her phone with her free hand to text Cassie and update her. |
Bucky just shrugged a little.
"Couldn't get rid of her," he said. Cassie saw the text and groaned. Really? Come on, I thought we were done with the Avengers. |
"Uh huh." Steve didn't believe that, not really, because it was difficult to out-stubborn Bucky. He would know, he was one of the few that did.
I thought so too, until one dropped in as I was grabbing the rogues. He tried to shove me out, too, didn't want me to go with. Nika kept most of her attention on the other two, though, in case they tried anything. |
"I figured it was more important to bring the rogues in," Bucky said, shrugging again just a little.
What's going on now? Cassie wanted to have all of the information available before she went to join her sister. |
Steve sighed. "Alright. Anything else I should know about? Any trouble?"
I jumped the rogues, I had one snapped up and Barnes jumped down and snagged the other one. He didn't even want to give me credit, didn't want to let me come with. I had to force my way in. |
"Nothing to report," Bucky replied. It was a little formal, but he couldn't help it, still.
Not that we're trying to garner credit with anyone, Cassie pointed out. All we care about is that the rogues are taken care of, remember? |
Steve nodded. "These two can be moved whenever you want," he told Bucky. "I can take that one for you, ma'am."
"If it's all the same, I think I'll keep him for now," Nika replied with a smile that had too many teeth to be genuine. He butted in right in the middle of my take down, and who knows where they stash their rogues? I want to make sure these two troublemakers aren't getting out again. |
